1967 L78 Chevelle

4 Attachment(s)
I am selling my 1967 L78 Chevelle. To my knowledge, this is the earliest built 67 L78 Chevelle known at this time, 04C build date from the Framingham plant. The car was sold new in Northern Maine at Etscovitz Chevrolet and spent it’s life there until being sold to a prior owner around 2010, who restored the car. It is highly optioned for an L78 car. Vinyl top, gauge package, bucket seats, console, sport steering wheel, and power disc brakes. It is an M21 car with 3.73 posi. The car is documented with the original POP, and prior owner affidavits. Car was shown at MCACN in 2011 and 2012, scoring a best of 996/1000.

The car retains all the factory high performance parts such as it’s original date coded (742) 3910 Holley, distributor, manifolds, balancer, deep groove crank pulley, correct timing chain cover without dowel pin holes, alternator, alternator pulley, radiator, fan and fan clutch. Matching numbers trans and rear. I believe the block is as well, D17 casting date and 0420EG assembly date. There is no partial VIN on the block so I cannot say undoubtedly 100% that it is the original block, as I was not with the car since it was new in April of 1967, but I believe it to be. It is an EG engine with a matching assembly date reflected on the POP.

The professionally built engine runs flawlessly and works as it should. It makes great power and has great drivability. This is how a stock L78 with a better than stock tune up should run! 291 heads without temp sending plugs, 6223 crank, 4 bolt mains, dimple rods with ARP bolts, NOS .030 over TRW pistons, and a Comp Cams replacement 143 cam. I always run this engine on a blend of pump gas and 110 leaded VP race gas. Did I say it makes great power?? The M21 shifts silky smooth. I did put a McLeod Clutch in it and a McLeod flywheel..

I can answer or do my best to answer any questions you may have. This car is very correct and is a pleasure to drive. Stunning glass, chrome, interior. It really is too much to list.

$120,000

I love the car. I think you got one number wrong in your add. I believe the heads should be 391. The 291 head was for 1970.

Sorry for the typo. 391 is correct. Photos of the castings numbers and date codes available. I recall D 1 7 date code on the drivers side head.

luzl78 08-09-2024 06:40 PM

Probably would have to add another $70,000 if it was a convertible. Beautiful, rare car. One of 612 built.

It is very unique with the gold interior.

I have known this car for the better part of 14 years or so. My friend Curt from Indiana was the guy who found this car and restored it. We traveled the AACA shows for several years and also showed it in Chicago at Mcacn. This car is very well known on Team Chevelle as Curt was a very active member at the time. His attention to detail with this car was second to none. Good luck with your sale this car is 100% as advertised

This car also took 1st place at the Boca Raton Concours car show. It was aslo voted by the AACA Judges as Muscle Car of the Year which is no small feat given that it was Judged against the thousands of Muscle cars competeing for the Title that year.

Curt is a retired Firefighter from the Oakland Bay area then moved his whole family to Indy. His high school son landed a seat on a Nascar Team and he was testing tires for this Nascar Team. He almost made the big show He's now down here in Jupiter Fl for good.

Thank you for the kind posts. Everyone involved in the restoration did an amazing job. Curt, Dave Birdwell, Dennis Barnett, and Jeff Helms; the car still looks stunning and drives really nice! I don't know how many REAL 1967 L78 Chevelles are actually being driven on public roads but this one is a real pleasure! I have done my best taking care of this special high performance Chevelle. Had the car at the shop for an oil change, snapped a few pictures of it underneath...

Here is a short clip of a cold start on the L78...

I almost bought a 67 El Camino in this same color combo many years ago "even the vinyl top". The guy sold the car out from under me after I bought my plane ticket. Really pissed me off. A couple of years later I was at a gas station and the car was at a gas pump next to me. Talked to the owner to confirm and let him know what happened, of course he had no knowledge of what the guy had done. It was a really neat coincidence since I lived in South Georgia, and we were at a gas station in North Carolina.

Chuck_Burg 09-05-2024 05:14 PM

Sorry you didn't get the car but neat coincidence seeing it at the pump :beers:

Awesome car. Saw it at Dave's shop and at MCACN after it was finished. One of a kind for sure. Love the color combo. Pic's do not do it justice. GLWTS

I agree, pictures don't do it justice. For an understated color like Capri Cream, it really looks great! The paint is still in amazing condition.

Chuck_Burg 10-18-2024 09:16 PM

The car is sold pending payment. Going to a nice collection in the Pacific Northwest. Thank you SYC

Chuck_Burg 10-24-2024 09:49 PM

The deal fell through and I've decided to keep the car for now. Thanks!
