Hello all! Wondering if you guys can help? Does anyone have vintage muscle car photos scanned and that can be uploaded to this discussion that I can use in a short film? Thank you!

My uncle John’s brand new Heavy Chevy Chevelle. 6 months later in the junkyard after a street race gone bad. He survived amazingly. He was my hero and where my car passion came from. Rob

Stretching the definition of muscle car a bit (model year wise) but my first car and daily driver back then.

Dad ordered this car for my mom to drive. She had it four years and I got it after she was done with it.

I have been racing this same car for 46 years. First time out it went 14.90's. Best pass on the original motor was 12.20.

It now regularly goes 9.80's at 136 mph.

So, just to be clear, you want old photographs correct? That's why you mentioned "vintage" and "scanned", because you don't really need pics of old muscle cars taken yesterday, or last month, etc,...etc... but actual photos taken with a camera, back in the day, right?

mssl72 06-21-2024 06:37 PM

First one is late '73, car was a month old. Second picture is original owner with a buddy, a year or 2 later.

You may notice the Z28 emblems added to the front fender in the 2nd picture. The OO did that after he removed the stripes.

Ran across this car at Firebird raceway in the 80s, ran 11.80s at the time, I thought to myself what a well thought out car.

Thank you so much for saying that.

We kept it at 11.80's for a long time (trying to avoid putting a roll bar in it). Once we put the bar in it was on to 10.70's and 10.50's before the next big jump.

Wow, that Heavy Chevy Chevelle was really messed up. I'm glad your uncle made it through OK.

Did you know Elmo Hodges and Deb from the proving grounds? Debbie 18 at the time prowled the streets in her L88 70 or 71 stick Camaro.

We lived to tell about it.

Actually - I was just thinking about that.

Back then the trip to the track would have been all two lane roads (no freeways) and about 20 to 90 miles one way. Probably 50-55 mph max. I recall that the road to Tri City dragway was dirt (paved in one direction, dirt going the other way).

Not like today where we are going all over the eastern 1/3 of the United States at freeway speeds (and above).

I wouldn't flat tow across town these days, with all the crazies and people not paying attention on the road. Imagine how one feels riding a motorcycle, or driving your classic, and then imagine a second one hooked together with no brakes on it.

I flat towed the Chevelle for a little bit. I had a wire harness that plugged in to the front of the car so that pressing the truck brakes actuated the brake lights on the car.

I still have the old tow bar and chains. I can set it up at shows but transport the cars separately and then hook up once I get there.

Question: how many carburetors in this picture?

Answer: Seven. Four on the Corvair and three on the GTO.

Thought I would add a few photos. Some old some not so much but they were not digital when taken. First couple of photos of my father's first car which it ran into an overpass when he fell asleep headed home from work. Next few are of a 68 CB L30 M20 (sag) Camaro and a L34 '70 SS. Then the 1st of 2 pace cars and mixed in was a black (originally Ash Gold with gold deluxe) L34 68. and finally a few of the 1st pace car finished along with the 2nd being finished. The one photo of the pace car on the trailer was back in mid to late 90's at the Camaro Nationals down in ATL IIRC. Lastly was a '76 SS Nova and some random photos of the 1st pacer again.

Pictures of my X77 Z28 a previous owner sent me. I believe they are from the late 80's. The Z still looks basically the same today but has a lot less paint. The car cover wasn't very kind to the car over the years.

Have to dig big album out,
Sorry about the branch off the focus but the reason I joined here is her 69 "OLE BLUE" in the recent pics here.
Link to a work in progress thread documenting it on Chevelle forum.

I thought it may be of interest here as it is a third week of Feb Baltimore car L78- M22 that seems quite original.

If any interest in its details I will put a organized thread together here on it.

All pics I posted are factory paint cars.

Pics in this post are current and that is not me with her in front of her 68 convert.

That is a very young Ann in pics of my 68 SS RS L78 M22 Camaro in March 1978. Put the hood and a 67 vette 3x2 setup on it.
Used Chev center carb and 440 Mopar end carbs.
The Mopar end carbs are bigger and work better.
