Terry Pennington purchased the first automatic transmission L88 produced from the original owner (as I understand) late last year. It's undergoing a complete restoration at this moment.

----Terry Michaelis of Pro Team fame is bringing this great L88 to Mecum Indy. It's one of the reasons I'm going to Indy. Certainly not to buy but simply to see it go over the block. I've driven a couple of 435 Turbo 400 69 Corvettes and they were crazy fun. One had a 4.11 and was especially fun as it had been upgraded with an L88 cam and a few other goodies. Tried to buy that one but was unsuccessful!.....Bill S

I've always wanted a solid lifter big block automatic Corvette. I had a 1970 Z28 automatic and it was a blast.

I owned a 1969 435hp Turbo-Hydramatic. I flew out to Peoria Illinois from Boston and drove it home in 1979

At the time he was also selling a 1965 Big Tank Fuel Coupe and stated which ever one sells first, he was going to keep the other. Well guess what happened, he sold the 1965 Big Tank Fuel Coupe. I always wonder what became of the 1969 L-89 TH400 Coupe. Would have been (1) VERY Beautiful and Rare Corvette when done the right way, and the Colors. WOW! That was then, and this is now as they say. Bill |
Bill, the C3 registry shows it under restoration and owned by Kevin. It shows Kevin purchased it in 2015. I guess he's working on it.

That is awesome news. I'm going to call him. After all the combinations of Corvettes I have come across since June 1985 when I started my Business and hobby of showing and restoring Corvettes, this 1969 L-89 Coupe has always stuck in my head since I first saw it when I had my NCRS Top Flight 1969 Riverside Gold L-89 4-speed Coupe. It's got to be one of a hand full ever built in that color and option combination. What a Neat Car! But that's my opinion. Bill

The silver L/89 is in Illinois being restored Kevin sold it years ago

Bill, here's the pad on 13586, factory grind on the VIN. What a car.
|
Ralph, Do you know if a shop or an individual is restoring it and where in Illinois it is? Bill
|
Tim, Have you seen it lately or seen any progress?. I would imagine who ever now owns it is hopefully restoring it for an NCRS or Bloomington Gold Judging. Bill
|
A long time NCRS member owns it now and it is in a shop being restored.
|
Bill, I have not seen it in years, unfortunately.

I have always wondered what L88 this was in the pic below that I scanned out of some magazine years ago. Anybody know if Automatically Yours ever ran with added-on factory side exhausts before it was lettered up?

Those side pipes look factory and that was a 69 year only. Also, don’t see the push button for the door. Lastly, looks to be Riverside gold color which was also a 1969 color. |
Also, the Stingray script on the side began in 1969, not to say they didn't add it.
|
That is not a '68.
