Wow!!!
|
I think we've seen YENKO stamped aluminum big blocks here before, and IIRC, they have no additional value as opposed to a non-stamped aluminum big block :dunno:

I’ve seen the later blocks with YENKO cast in raised letters, I hadn’t seen an early one stamped before. Easier to stamp one than add characters to the mold obviously:)

LC Snowflake
Charley Lillard found one of these blocks 15 years ago and he posted pictures of it here on Yenko.net. The story was. Don Yenko dident like ZL1 blocks so he had LockportCasting make 20 blocks for him. Don Yenko used them in his Roadracing Corvettes and Camaros. They were cast in 1969 |

In the comments, the seller claims the block is an early unit since it has press in freeze plugs and the screw in plugs came later. In my experience, the original blocks have screw in plugs.

Crazy.....
"This No Reserve: Chevrolet 427 ZL1 V8 auction you were watching on BaT just sold! Check out the listing by clicking here. The winning bid was $50,000". Paul |
That is CRAZY! Does anybody on this site believe this Engine "Assembly" was worth $50,000.00? Or is it just me being me? Bill
|
It is one of the coolest engines of all time in my opinion. That’s a lot of dough but it’s a lot of engine.

I have one just like the first and second, but without the Yenko (spelled) stamp. I won't bother to go into info as nobody ever seems to want to get into the history of these on this board. But I will tell you one thing, that run of blocks have a nasty surprise that took me eight grand to fix. I'll leave it at that.
|
I would like to know about the history and the surprise.

That's what I remember. $50,000 is still Crazy, but "I'm just sayin" Bill |
50k???? Is that a real bid?? There is an early dated real 69 block for low 20’s for sale now on FB.
I think the coolest ZL-1 blocks made were the blocks like the one I bought from the late Al M. that had the Yenko crest cast right in front. But all ZL-1 blocks are cool…( but not 50k cool !) |

I had a chance a few years ago to buy a ZL1 for $6000. It had been blown up a few times and had a lot of damage. The block had been filled with hard block and the heads were also filled. It was in a mini pulling tractor with fuel injection running on alcohol. It was probably worth it, and it's still there, but I just couldn't spend the money on it.

Did that look like the correct carb on that engine?Tom
|
Yes, it was the 69 L88/ZL1 carb with a 1970 date.

$15K, San Diego, pick up only:
https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/...716224625.html Selling for a customer who is wanting to sell a snowflake complete engine, block casting #3946052 can't find the production date. Cylinder heads stamped 3946074 dated 11-8-71 and 8-12-71. Looks like the intake is correct and comes with custom valve covers, distributor, flywheel, coil and harmonic balancer. Found a little damage to one of the lifter bores due to a lifter failure, cam was damaged. The 69 Camaro came in running with a misfire so we pulled this motor and put a 540 aluminum big block. Don't have time to deal with shipping so selling local pickup only! Thanks for looking! |
I'd buy that if it wasn't on the other side of the country.
