'72 Cutlass Supreme, #s 455/4-sp/3.23, Cool Project

Awesome car - rusty, but how great would this be once restored.

Build sheet shows the car having been ordered by "G M O D C" in New York City, and looks to have been delivered to someone in San Francisco. Super interesting car.

Way to Rusty, but a neat / rare car. One would be upside down real quick bringing it back. Bill

A friend's older brother ordered a very similar car. If it was a Chicago area dealer, I'd swear it was the same car.

you've got to really want THAT car to take it on...

This '72 V code 4-speed has been for sale on Facebook for a while now. Looks like a nice one-owner car overall. Lacking on photos though.

Damn, that's a beautiful car for 37k. No point in resurrecting the poor white rust bucket at this price.

I love the far left pod made for a clock with nothing in it. That's the way they came if you didn't order one.

----Begging for a tach!....Bill S

Begging for a Ram Air W25 hood.

Too Many Projects 01-22-2024 05:22 PM

The white one would look good with that hood...the brown car is too classy of a sleeper in that color combo to have that hood on it. I really like that car just the way it sits....well, OK, some Chrome Cragars would be nice...

----Jusst me, but I like these Cutlass Supreme's with a vinyl top. Maybe in a close to the same color or a dark brown....Bill S

Production Numbers

I read today that they built 77 hardtops and 66 convertibles with this engine/trans combo.

Was reading an article in CRG and stumbled upon the GMODC explanation. GM Overseas Distribution Corporation. Seems the car was built for export. Interesting, if was it was exported and then brought back. Service member in a foreign country order it ? Could explain the severe rust for where it is located now. OR, it never did leave the country/CA and was a coastal car.

My body/painter friend always says "if only they could talk"...
This car really intrigues me, but the price, distance and my age prevent any further interest. As my username says, I already have "too many projects"...:smirk:

Thanks for the info, Mitch! Agree that it’s pretty far gone but I’d be all over it if it could be bought for half the asking price.

Other known export cars that I've seen usually show "export prep" on the build sheet or build order, I'm not seeing that. Looks like this car was possibly shipped to San Francisco?

TimG 01-28-2024 03:52 PM

Could GMOCD also mean it was ordered by someone overseas but not intended to go there?

Yes, seems to have been shipped to SF for export and may never have left. Maybe it went to a base in the Philippines, Japan or Hawaii and came back with the person when the tour was done ? Lots of possibilities that we will never know.

If I am reading the build sheet correctly, it seems it was built with a black vinyl top too ? Maybe that box is for something else.
I'm thinking the floor is scaring people away, but it needs a full, 1 piece and it would even with 30% more rusted metal in the pics. A 1 piece floor install is the same either way and one of the easier methods to cure drastic floor rust anyway. Probably needs a trunk floor too, but the same principal.

Tony, very glad the price is $7,500 and it's 1,900 miles away. As a dead horse to load and transport that alone could add $2,500 to the cost. At 900 miles and $2,500, I'd be in a heap a trouble...
Just turned 600 miles R/T Friday to deliver the '64 SS to Beloit, WI. 12 hour day and practice for the run to FL this week...

scuncio 01-28-2024 08:46 PM

Glad you got the 64 sold!

Too Many Projects 01-28-2024 09:28 PM

Thanks, Tony. 1 less dead horse and several shelves of parts gone. Still trying to get the seller of the C10 out of Oklahoma to pay for the title. Been 2 years. Last fall, he authorized the title co. in OKC to get a title and he would pay for it. The company has the title but can't get any money out of the guy, so there it sits. I might have to hire Lynn and sic him on the loser...:cool2: Once I get the title, that will leave this summer too.

Correct, C08 Vinyl Top Black in the options list. Box 79 / Upper color - B = Black Vinyl Top.
