69 Camaro Base Coupe Wanted

After lurking the site for years and being a member over a year, I'm enlisting help from the member base of SCR in finding the ideal car I’m after as I see a consistently higher quality of cars and genuine, honest and trustworthy members/sellers on SCR. I'm looking to purchase another cruiser that I can take out on a sunny weekend - something that isn't a performance variant, is low maintenance and simple/original. To this end, I’m searching for a base 69 Camaro coupe. My short list of what I’m looking for is:
  • 69 Camaro coupes only
  • Original 327/307 (base) car. May even consider a 6 cylinder.
  • Completely original, not modified in any way. This means cars wearing their correct exterior/interior (as denoted on cowl tag), correct driveline (numbers matching not essential but correct OEM replacement with correct parts ok), etc.
  • Restored, driver or survivor.
  • No projects, no rust buckets, no slap together restos.
Please drop me a message if you’ve got a base 69 I’d be interested in. Before anyone asks - no, I’m not turning this into a COPO clone and whatever I purchase will need to be and remain 100% original.

For transparency sake, I'm located in Western Australia. Happy to consider all cars across the US but obviously the closer to CA, the better (where the car will be shipped out of).

Posting up three pictures as good examples... and just because who doesn't like looking at 69 Camaros...

Thanks! I’m sure you can tell I have an affinity for factory shades of blue. Dusk Blue is definitely my pick of the bunch for 69. I just wish an original dusk blue car was easier to find!

There was a very solid looking 69 RS project car posted for sale here recently.

Thanks Jason. I did see that one recently however I’m currently restoring my 68 RS/SS 396 4 speed car and doing an almost full rebuild (excluding exterior body work and paint) on my 66 Nova so I’m definitely trying to avoid another project at the moment!

ACR 11-25-2023 09:39 AM

Whilst I’m able to find SS and Z28 cars in droves, it seems finding a nice original 307/327 powered car is a more difficult task these days! Slightly opening up the scope of my search to include LM1/L65 cars. Please message if you’ve got something of interest.

Still looking :)

Still searching, no luck so far. Had one lead but the sellers communication (or lack thereof) put me off entirely.

New years bump! Still in the market. Almost pulled the trigger on one but it was sold out from under me.

Happy new year all :)

Still on the hunt.

Apart from the colour change, it does. I’ve been keeping an eye on it. I assume like most other first gens on BaT it’ll land at crazy money we’ll see…

It's been a while but bumping this again. Still haven't found the ideal car.

Thanks for the post. I’m hoping to avoid body and paint work with any purchase I make so I’ll pass on this. Good luck with the sale.

Do you have a range of what you are looking to spend?

Up to 50K USD, which I figured would get me a nice base coupe but apparently not these days..

Pro Stock John 04-11-2024 05:46 PM

So only a base coupe, not something restored with modifications... crate engine, headers, wheels?

I'd consider something with easily reversible modifications or even a crate engine if it's done in a subtle way. Too many local registration hassles these days when trying to register a modified car which I'd like to avoid (that desire is already fulfilled in some of my other cars). Do you have something in mind?

Pro Stock John 04-11-2024 11:53 PM

I've checked around locally by me but the '69s are in the $60s and modified quite a bit.

Maybe one of our members would consider doing a little scouting for you.

The performance models and/or modified examples are a dime a dozen these days. A good original (or close to it) base coupe is a tough find. No rush though, I've been looking a while now and will continue until the right one appears.

ACR 04-28-2024 01:41 PM

Had a local lead that I finally got a chance to view this weekend however it unfortunately fell well short of expectations. Bumping this again.

ACR 05-16-2024 04:03 PM

Still looking for the right base coupe.

ACR 06-04-2024 11:01 PM

Opening the criteria slightly; I'll consider an L65/LM1, a 6 cylinder (230/250), or a nice survivor L48. The rest of the criteria still applies... completely original or close enough that I can return it to original, no projects, etc.

70LS6454 06-09-2024 09:22 PM

Tons of modified cars out. Finding one that hadn’t been messed with is certainly a tough task.

Very much so. It seems like 99% of the base coupes have long since been turned into something else. I figure I'm about 10 years late to the party :burnout:

I ran into Earl (MGM Classic Cars) at a show today. He said he's helped a few folks from AU get cars.

Thanks John. I see MGM's cars advertised from time to time.. Lots of modified examples. Not sure I'd be given a lead on the kind of car I'm after but I might reach out.

Pro Stock John 06-11-2024 12:54 AM

You could ask Earl. He said that it's hard to find a stock car but you could always reach out and discuss, he's buying and selling more cars than any of us.

ACR 06-11-2024 11:38 AM

Fair point. I've reached out. Let's see where it goes.
