Introducing the cover art for my new book. The book will be out in September.
I'd love to hear your criteria for what you would call a car 1 of 1.

Tough call criteria-wise ... one-of-one w/green radio buttons might have a cool story as to why those radio buttons "had" to be green and what strings had to be pulled to make that happen ...?

To me a 1 of 1 car needs to be limited to the engine/transmission and or the interior/exterior color combinations i.e. the blue and silver RS 1969 ZL1 Camaro's are 1 of 1 cars. I've seen a lot of Marti Reports that have a car listed as 1 of 1 but if it's because its the only red car that was made with blue interior, am/fm radio, front floor mats and rear window defrost I'm not very interested. Cool car but not really 1 of 1 to me.

Some form of documentation is needed for a car to be true 1 of 1 in my opinion. I "think" my old COPO Camaro is 1 of 1 car since it was the only Hugger Orange/orange houndstooth 4 speed COPO known to exist but I can't prove it so it doesn't really count since we all know what my opinion is worth(not much).

IMO the criteria should be interior/exterior color combo and driveline variations.

May be special paint, many options or lack of ( no radio , heater, ect ). The higher hp model the more appreciation & value with original documents. I have been restoring a GM oshawa documented 70 nova ss 1001PA no radio ,muncie , bench still in pieces. Imo don’t think there's a twin to it. Rare yes unicorn no as I'm no player in $6 digit muscle cars. I will be looking forward to some of the 1 of 1 's in your book. Thanks Marc.

Is this car in your book?

1 of 1 in general would be better and would be more inclusive instead of exclusive. A Big 3 car with more options makes it closer to 1 of 1 including the drivetrain. Does a 69 Camaro Pacer with a rear window defogger qualify? My friend had one. I’ve seen enough muscle cars that I’m not excited, and I like the oddball stuff because it’s never seen. However, best of luck with your book.

I’m sure the 1968 Z28 convertible would qualify.

I see the Hurst Sunshine Special I used to own. I assume the 67 GT500 Super Snake is also in there.

Before he sold it recently,and because he was the only original owner who still had possession of it,would Ken Barnhardts 1969 ZL-1 Camaro be considered a 1 of 1 for this book?

One of One is way overplayed, in my opinion. The Marti Reports all break down the options to show how "rare" each car is but rare does not necessarily mean valuable. In fact, it does not even necessarily mean desirable.

I've seen cars broken down to "the only blue car equipped with the factory block heater".

If there's one thing consistent with 1 of 1 phraseology is that it's inconsistent :-)

There were 40ish cars presented in the book. I think we all have different qualifiers for what make a car 1 of 1. For me I broke it down to cars that are presumed to be the only in existence or presumed to have been the only one created. They would have been either prototypes/special factory builds (including 3rd party subcontracted), a deviation from a supercar builder (or the only one they built), or a production model that's uniquely qualified (special paint, unique option - Bunkie Knudsen's Boss 429 had A/C, etc..).
I'd hope readers would still be entertained if the book doesn't meet their requirements for 1 of 1. Let the debate begin! LOL

For what its worth, I always enjoy the cars Kevin Suydam collects.
I found 2 I liked that should fit the 1 of 1. No matter what your book will be great to read.

Black to me makes it a 1 of 1 as they dont seem to know how many M22s were made but they have to be rare with all the options it has.

Plymouth built one each of a 6 and 9 passenger wagon for '64. I would have covered both of those cars before this one.

I am glad you are on the same wavelink and not including the only yellow, six cylinder, four door with courtesy light group, extra three gallons of gas.

Not sure if they are one of a kind but i've seen a 4 door Max Wedge , 4 speed and a 66 LTD convertible dual quad 427 and a 67 Ford Custom R code 427.

Owned by the "C" Body studio chief, Richard Clayton. He built this as a S-27, which did not exist in 1970.

Such a shame there was no Sport Fury ragtop in 1970.

Ok long shot but seeing this special piant nova, if any info or any trim tag or protecto plate pics. ( inquiring only because it made a apearence on this thread ). Thanks Marc.

On the plum crazy purple aspect brought up on this thread, there is a 70 LS5 4 spd plum crazy Chevelle that has been taken finally out of a field in wisconsin maybe some 7 yrs back, that has only a buildsheet and the inside floor was plum crazy as it sat with all its parts stuffed in it.

I was going to buy it but thought I would hear all this crap about the color. It did not have its original drivetrain. GM had plum crazy on the buildsheet specified. Expensive restoration ahead. That car should pop up eventually.

I am not sure if qualifies as 1 of 1, but the Tin Soldier COPO has two items of interest.

One, it is the only known COPO that the original owner, Mr. Ron, actually worked on the assembly line at the factory. Mr. Ron worked at the Norwood plant building Camaros.
When he saw 427's going into some, he asked and was told about the COPO program. As a privateer, he wanted one immediately and went down to Queen City Chevrolet and ordered one.

Secondly, he said that on his vette, he was tired of going into the cockpit to look at temp while tuning, so he was somehow at the GM Locomotive division for something, and he swiped a GM Locomotive temp gauge and it "fell" onto the COPO as his story goes. It is still on the car today (moved to a new manifold that some point).

More of an interesting tidbit than anything I guess, but pretty cool none the less.

Kevin's '73 Nickey Nova is in the book. On an interesting note, I found a classified ad for the car and was able to put Kevin in touch with the original owner.
