Cool prototype Firebird photos

Just saw these this morning on Facebook by Brad Barrie. Pretty neat looking Firebird and has a hint of a Dick Harrell hood. 1969 Firebird Trans Am prototype. Palladium Silver. Note the differences in the hood scoops, windshield air deflector, side scoops and rear spoiler. These details would be refined for the production cars that were all painted white with blue stripes.

Hi Rick,

It was at MCACN in 2014 :)

My photos that year were hosted on the crappy photobucket website

But here's Lou C's video

Thanks Bruce. I missed that car at the show which is nothing new as I seldom if ever get to see any of the cars at MCACN as I am too busy showing ours. Maybe next year. ;)

----Can't help but notice that the windshield wiper hider was removed at some point. I kinda liked that. What a cool Firebird in any event!!!.....Bill S

Some observations:

1 - looks like Milt driving it, in picture number 2

2 - hard to say, but I'm thinking Milan Dragway (Milan Michigan)

3 - already has Royal license plate frames on it!

The GM photos are I believe of the first prototype, not the same as the one shown at MCACN..

Wow, that is one awesome story, and what a lucky find it was.

interesting how the prototype spoiler bows upward in the middle and then all the production models sag in the middle.

I think that car ended up with the Brothers?Tom

Charley Lillard 02-08-2023 03:33 AM

I don't think the Brother's got it. I think I remember it selling at Barrett-Jackson.

The hood is different on the MCACN car.

They’re 2 different cars.. The one in the GM photos was I believe the first one which was done in Gene Winfields shop and later destroyed. The 2nd has the GM styling studios components on it. The hood on the MCACN car is also a one off and different from the production cars.
