VV Cooke car, Member Mrays posted pics of it from the 2016 Mecum auction in this linked thread also noted it's been to MCACN so he or others here may have more info...

Congrats on what appears to be a great find!

For what it's worth, I have a few big block Corvette pads with the same HD rebuilder stamp and rebuild date. I've traced this builder to Kentuckey. He always stamped his initials and date of rebuild, probably for warranty reasons. All the engines I've seen this on have been Hi Performance big blocks.

ranfast66 08-04-2022 12:51 PM

Thanks for that, makes sense since the auction says the car sold new in ky.

subyman99 08-04-2022 03:07 PM

I’m not an expert by any means but that mn stamp is definitely different than a
Couple of my original Mn blocks. The M forsure.

Did they use different stamps throughout the year for these blocks ?

Matt

Steve Shauger 08-04-2022 03:58 PM

Yes there were a couple M's used

Seems the car was sold without it's original engine.... :hmmm:

"The drivetrain, which comprises the L72 427/425 HP big-block V-8, Muncie M21 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt 4.10:1 Positraction rear end, uses correct date-coded components throughout, including the A.I.R. emissions control system".

scuncio 08-04-2022 05:44 PM

Way cool that the car still exists.

ranfast66 08-04-2022 05:54 PM

Great find and hopefully this engine gets reunited with the car!

Yes it is and it would be nice to get them together. Then, at least to me, the car would be worthy of all the accolades it's already received and the price of a real Yenko.

Mr70 08-04-2022 09:29 PM

Amazing.

Too Many Projects 08-04-2022 09:49 PM

Maybe Pete can come up with some pre-restoration pics to get an idea why the engine was removed.

Then the question would be where is the transmission.

all_about_cars 08-04-2022 10:56 PM

I think that HD could be from a local mechanic and racer from Louisville KY. I believe I have seen this stamp. Harold Dahl worked for VV Cooke Chevrolet and had a shop at home where he did a lot of hot rod and tuning work back in the day.Harold died in 2006.

1967 4K 08-04-2022 11:37 PM

This is a great post for me being a Ky. connection. My brother bought a 71 Vette from VV Cooke. Sure hope this engine gets back with the car.

mprice 08-05-2022 01:24 PM

If I am not mistaken isn't this the car Dean Davis owned and restored?

Pusher_Man 08-07-2022 04:02 AM

Mick, yes we believe it is. Nuge, Chris, Bennie, and I talked to Dean a good while at Mecum when he had the car there. I nearly decided to get it but didn’t and the car went for relatively cheap, but Dean appeared ready to let it go. As soon as it hammered and several times since I had some regrets for not going after it. He did an amazing job restoring it and it’s a great car.

PeteLeathersac 08-07-2022 02:12 PM

Yes, Myron noted it was D. Davis' car in his 2016 posting w/ Mecum pics as Pg.1 link, again here...
https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1420011
All in, appears to be a great car that's going to get even better reunited w/ Original lump, looking forward to more!

Car has been located and PM has been sent to the original poster.

southernfriedcj 08-08-2022 11:24 AM

Curious, how much value would the original engine add to the car if reunited?

Would that number be the value of the engine? More? Less?

Copo_Cartel 08-08-2022 11:35 AM

I think going forward that should be a private discussion between the seller and buyer.

1967 4K 08-08-2022 12:05 PM

Absolutely, no concern to anyone else.

PeteLeathersac 08-08-2022 01:08 PM

All true but seller posting on other sites seeking fair value which is understandable, here's a link to yesterday's TC thread...

Copo_Cartel 08-08-2022 10:52 PM

It only has value to one car....after that it’s probably $7,000
