Dry Ice blasting
10 Attachment(s)
Doing 2 cars at Level One Restoration.. Gary has basically set up a paint booth to do it in as it makes a lot of dust. First car up is a Chevy Luv with 75 miles on it. These are before and after. He will go back with a detail nozzle later.

The mess is probably one of my biggest reservations from jumping in. The results are spectacular Charlie!
Chevy Luv? Where did you find a Luv with 75 miles? |

For the dry ice, you could buy one of these to contain the mess, but then, how do you clean the capsule ?? https://carcapsule.com/blog/how-else...le-prostation/ https://www.yenko.net/forum/cache.ph...0gmb-1-pro.jpg |
That has to be the nicest Chevy LUV in existence!! The undercoating did its job all those years sitting…
|
Charley, you told me about this type of cleaning about a month ago and now I see exactly what you’re talking about. Wow.
|
I Google searched the Luv and found it was sold years ago by Dennis Collins(Gas Monkey) partner at auction. I think he did the undercoating then to cover up any uglyness. Who undercoats a aluminum transmission ? My understanding is a guy in New Mexico bought it new but died after driving it only 65 miles. The family kept it until Collins bought.

Love the Luv's... My father did a 400 sbc swap in a 4wd one back in the 80's. Pulled the front axle out and left the spindles, 350tb, 9" from a 60 something Ford. That thing would absolutely fly.. Nice work on this one.

Gary was waiting on more ice. Should finish the Luv today and then start on my Camaro. Looks like he is doing the Luv not in a booth. You can see the crud on the floor.
|
Ooooh........whaat's the 411 on the Camaro?:naughty:

Ill start another thread.

I have had contractors dry ice blast industrial machinery many times and have tried to justify buying a full system both for work and for home….. I haven’t bought one yet but believe this is the gamer changer technology for initial cleaning of old cars.
I was chasing Des to blast his 69 Z. Ryan W-31 |
did he show you what it does for interiors? before he bought it, he was talking to me about it and then when he got it he did a test on a sunvisor on one of my old 69 ta's, it was amazing how it turned out.
|
He has even done headliners. I want to see how the blue Comfortweave seats come out.
|
We went through 600 pounds of dry ice in 4hours. The thicker the under coating the more ice u use . My under coating on the floor was triple that !!!!!!! I can’t believe ther doing that inside. The dust goes everywhere.

Wouldn't a lift outside be a better way to do that??
Looks like it makes one hell of a mess. No way I'd want to do that in my paint booth. I'd never have another paint job without dirt in it, lol. |
WOW! that it amazing. Does anyone know of a dry ice blaster that could do car bodies close to Lancaster, PA?

I’m impressed..
|
I found a shop this morning in Calgary that does it , and I have a 69 Camaro, 30,000 miles and likely 30 years of chainsaw oil sprayed all over the undercarriage for rust proofing with mint floor pans underneath….
The guy says he’s done over 100 cars here so far… Can’t wait to see the results. |
Charley, when dry icing undercoating, does it all completely fall off the car by itself,or do you have to go over it with a tool to get the remaining off?
Can you also show us pics off the garage floor, underneath the car where it all lands? I've got a car here with about a good solid inch of undercoating,or more. |
It all falls off. I'll get Gary to take a pic of the floor when it's a mess.
|
I should have had them do the underside of mine too.

wow, thats pretty impressive on that blue Camaro. My 69 Z would be a great candidate for this process.
|
Yes it will cost a couple thousand. I think the going rate is 250.00-300.00 per hour. You won't know the final cost as some jobs are easier than others. Gary is expanding his business to make the blasting part of it a full time addition. I think his restoration side of the business is booked out for years but he should be able to handle new customers that need blasting work done.
