1965 Corvette Roadster 327-365hp
Here's a car that is going through my shop right now. I am freshening some things up on this 70k mile 65 L76 roadster. A great solid car, that appears to have every original numbered and dated component. Beautiful original interior!!
This is going to prove to be a great driver for someone when it's completed. 327-365hp M20 4 speed (close ratio) 4.11 posi AM/FM radio C&C group (knock offs and gold lines added) https://i.imgur.com/L2gwZGNh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dRicHWuh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/JK4r7jth.jpg https://i.imgur.com/lxmezZ5h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Ed3EtCLh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/t0JO7Ukh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zp7CHDTh.jpg I've got a Dewitt's radiator on the way, fresh set of gold lines, and a small amount of items to replace the typical parts store items (battery cables, heater hoses, etc). I just finished rebuilding the carb, will rebuild the clock, pull the gauge cluster to clean all of the gauge faces / lenses, and overall just give everything a good going through. |
Nice looking car. Is that original paint ?
Black interior, I assume ? |

Is that the original radiator in the car now, and is the car going to be for sale.

Pretty car, Tim. The 1965 yellow is stunning, it looks like they used the correct shade on the repaint.

Nice score, Tim.

would love to own it

Nice car Tim, you cracked me up with the sprinkler comment, lol!

First round of cleaning this morning yielded the engine suffix crayon marks. Pulled the valve covers afterwards to find the properly dated 461's along with the original "O" rocker arms.
On a different note, have you seen a remanence of paint on the deck like found here? I cannot say that I recall that. The rest of the paint on the engine strikes me as original (obviously with the crayon marks on the head). I neglected to answer the other question Bob had in his post "will the car be for sale?" Yes it will. If anyone would like to know more about the car, feel free to reach out. Thanks for the continuing interest! Me too, but not in the cards. |
I've owned 2 1965 365hp corvettes, these are the best of the C3s,
plenty of power, no heat coming in the passenger compartment like Big block cars, 4 wheel disc and one of the few solid lifter Chevrolets engines to be offered w/air conditioning. 365 HP corvettes were not available with power steering because the 6 Qt oil pan left no room for the steering ram. |

Original starter solenoid.....
https://i.imgur.com/RJLhQOch.jpg I've been more of an office clerk today than pulling wrenches. Pulled the plugs and completed the Williams / Hinckley valve adjustment procedure. Obviously this still has the 30-30 cam in it. Despite old crusty plug wires and old stinky fuel, the plugs looked good IMO! https://i.imgur.com/6gySVEih.jpg https://i.imgur.com/plMneOzh.jpg |
Clean those puppies up and put them right back in. Nothing wrong with them.

If they were leaking at the hex, there will be a carbon ring at the base. Most of what you see is crap from rotten wires. The black shadow may be some leakage from the boot being brittle and not sealing anymore. That is quite common.
The center electrode looks to have a crisp edge, with no rounded appearance from wear. |
Really cool car, Tim. My '67 Z28 that I bought from the original owner has the same 1114344 part number on the starter solenoid.

The cluster is pulled for cleaning, the clock is pulled for rebuilding and cleaning, and then there is more cleaning.

You're killin' us with these pics. That car will be sold before you're done cleaning...:headbang:
If I was in the market, you'd already have a down payment...:worship: |

I'm starting to like that car, Tim.

I already acquired one mid year Corvette from Wisconsin in the past 10 days, so I'll hold off on this one.

Great work so far. Keep it up!

I got some parts in today including the correct vacuum advance can. My original was out to lunch you could say. The correct vacuum advance can is not as readily available as it once was. I did find a vendor that cataloged theirs for the high performance 327's, but it did not begin to pull at 4" of vacuum like these cars should.
I checked the new one pictured.........and voila! The weights were gummed up with this grease (which I understand one should never do). Everything is cleaned, new points and condenser........set the dwell and on to the next item! https://i.imgur.com/ZFGgpvbh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7YK4aI2h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dr4QXybh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ZG3lms4h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/B3mYsgQh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/PBrKsguh.jpg I guess I found my exhaust leak:dunno: https://i.imgur.com/1PltDD9h.jpg |
Tim, is that your distributor machine. If so, cool.

Tim,
I subscribed at the beginning of this thread, mainly because of the light yellow on black combination, I’m partial. I started taking the front seats out decades ago to perform work under the dash as I felt like a pretzel 🥨 after exiting. Curious, shouldn’t the Delco-Remy cap for this ‘65 be the “Patent Pending” only with the tall towers. No “R”, as I show below. Yup, that vintage SUN distributor machine is really cool. I enjoyed watching the work you did on that cool Black ‘64 FI awhile back and I’m watching this ‘65 getting dialed in. Thanks for documenting, Chris |
