Ah. I wonder what the trim tag looks like on this car.

A buddy of mine did the body & paint work on this car about 6 or 7 years ago, After hearing supposed story/history of this car i was more than skeptical ! And the Owner at the time was a local guy with a very shady reputation, insurance fraud , receiving stolen property etc… Not sure who Own’s it Now ? I’m far from an expert , but others way more Knowledgeable than I say the car is” Bogus”

Pro Stock John 08-26-2021 04:32 PM

Gotcha, interesting former race car but the provenance is light.

Not real. Made to be the DC1 car. Originally Sierra Fawn 327 car.

Pro Stock John 08-26-2021 06:16 PM

Was it even an original big block car?

I can see where folks start to brew up a history for a car, other people start to share that same story and the magazines pick it up too. But that article linked does I think stop short of saying with a degree of authority that it was the real deal.

Wasn't the first Dana 427 Camaro an RS/SS 350 car built up for Ole Bardahl?

So Peyton Cramer joined Dana Chevrolet in 1966 and headed the performance program, is that accurate? And the issue here is this black Camaro has no real history to back up the claim of how it came together?

Pro Stock John 08-27-2021 01:19 AM

Though Dan (Palchanes?) said on another board 11 years ago: "Joe,Cool stuff you posted.Check this out,the original 1967 black Dana 427 dragcar that HawiianJeff posted a while back was pulled off the Dana lot as a non SS 67 Camaro. Was a original V8 4 speed car and original color was NOT black,it was Gold!! Got this info from someone that worked there and is a very reliable source. He was there when car was being built."

I'd be shocked if these pics don't inspire some poor decision making:hmmm:

This imposter black Dana Camaro was delivered new to Brown & Hoeye Chevrolet in Mesa, AZ and was a fawn beige 327 automatic with a gold standard interior per the cowl tag. The original real Dana DC1 Camaro was a black SS with black standard interior and a manual trans. Numerous other details also throw cold water on the guy's claim.

Thanks Bruce but credit actually goes to Jon M. who noticed the Jack Head Chevy Dana Plate # matched the Bardahl Dana Test car back when I first posted it in the Old Newspaper Ads thread.
Ole likely traded it in at Jack Head also interesting too is some original pics of the Bardahl car are earlier w/ Dana 1234 Dealer Tag + no Bardahl decals on doors until TSD-988 Plates appear.

As to the subject car, we've looked at it here a few times before w/ same fairy tale conclusion.
Vin indicates late Nov. build so 02/67 Rod & Custom article seems to fit but spread likely done months before Magazine date also same car in the original Dana/Yenko ads which especially if from Oct/Nov, would be impossible for subject build?:hmmm:

Dana did offer a 427 Super Drag Camaro and a 427 Road Camaro

Too Many Projects 08-27-2021 02:26 PM

Nice pics of the nose stripe on the White car. Clearly shows how the lower one terminated at an angle and started right at the body line. I've been looking for an original photo for a while now for future reference for mine.

Thanks, so was there originally a black SS DC1 car, and they are trying to claim that this car is that car?

JoeC 08-27-2021 08:43 PM

the article is making two claims. One is that the car is the black 67 Dana Camaro and they also claim it is the old Gary Dodd pro stock Camaro. The Dodd car was said to be a 427 Dana Camaro. It was in an old magazine that the Dodd car was the old Dana Camaro.

1967Z28 08-27-2021 08:54 PM

Yes, they're trying to say that Dana Chevrolet who could order any car exactly like they wanted to went and got a car from a neighboring state that was painted a different color, had a different color interior, no manual transmission, no 12-bolt and changed it all to appear to be a black on black SS. The original Dana DC-1 did not have the Z21 style trim package with chrome roof drip and wheel well molding but the cowl tag on the fake DC-1 car shows that car did come with Z21 when new. There is no credible explanation to believe this would be true.

Thanks guys, I love all the knowledge you guys have.

It seems like all the recent FB posts about the car are gone....

It is still on FB. Here is a screen shot from a dealer who says they will have it for sale.

Here is some research I did on this car .

There was an old article that said the Gary Dodd Camaro was "the old Dana Camaro" but it is not clear if it was the #1 black Dana Camaro drag car. Maybe it was the other blue Dana Camaro drag car with Nordskog sponsorship (I posted a pic of it earlier)

A search on "Nordskog" showed a company that sold 240 Z/V8 conversion kits and was based in California

Looks like Gary converted his 67 to a 1968 Camaro for 1970 Pro Stock.
NHRA 1970 Pro Stock rule stated the car must be 1968 and newer models.

If that is a dealer write up, it reads like a foreign scam. Poor use of words, punctuation and spelling. Classic hallmarks.

TEK410 shows up in '68 on two other totally different cars so I would not count on it being the actual plate used on one of those Dana 427s.

Great stuff Jon and you're so right, we can't count on anything also all at best clues to each next one.
Again, nothing to do w/ subject Fraud car but here's a few '67 Vin possibilities from Ad as LOS Coupes.
No results today but for future Googling, whether any of us here or others out there...

This 6 are possibles w/ Ad noted '6495' as last 4 Vin digits:
124377L106495 - 124377L116495 - 124377L126495
124377L136495 - 124377L146495 - 124377L156495

This 10, again LOS Coupes but '6495' + one added digit as last 5, the only other possibilities?:hmmm:
124377L164950 - 124377L164951 - 124377L164952 - 124377L164953 - 124377L164954
124377L164955 - 124377L164956 - 124377L164957 - 124377L164958 - 124377L164959

Did you look for the ad from 2/19?

PeteLeathersac 09-23-2021 08:34 PM

'

Great question Bruce and yes, I tried but no luck finding the ad from 02/19/68.
That said, it was over 5 years ago when I saved these ads so it could've been scanned since?
I no longer have access to the newspapers.com site but a few others here do so maybe someone else can try searching the Plate also Phone # etc.
