'68 #s RS/Z Orig Paint Survivor, CA Black Plate Car
Sweet car - blue on black on blue RS with docs. These days, the opening bid of $70k doesn't seem as crazy as it would have seemed a year ago. Being a CA car, the paint may actually clean up fairly well.

Nice car!!!
selling a 69 pace car also:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/23407541540...wAAOSwyWdgUAwe with the "caution fan " sticker! on the z ad says engine rebuilt...hopefully not decked? |
both are really nice cars but I wonder if the pad was decked when 68 Z28 engine was rebuilt.
Remember looking at the pace car 20 years ago.
The miles looked right. |
Interesting that it has a base '67 steering wheel in it.
Is that the correct smog pump? And that smog pulley doesn’t look like a DG to me in the above photo…

One of the stories my dad liked to tell was about how hard they had to work at Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing (aka "Chevy in the Hole") to get the gas cap to end up straight when it was in the fully locked position. Between the assembly variation within the cap itself, the variation of the cam lock to the fuel tank filler neck, the variation of the neck to the tank, and the tank installation to the vehicle body, it was an ongoing issue.
When he saw Danny Scott's Pro Street Camaro that is one of the first things he noticed: Danny used the gas cap as the master electrical cutoff switch. Rotated out of position = "Off" Rotated into position = "On" |
Was that really 28 years ago?
Geez. |

Yes, I saw that car daily-when my wife Lynn worked at Guaranty Chevrolet! |
His story has changed since I put spark plugs in it just to get it to run. Back when he offered it to me he wanted more then I thought it was worth, at the time I didn’t think it was realistic. Maybe now. Nice car with potential. I didn’t buy it because I couldn’t get it to stop smoking, I drove it for a while, he said he had the engine rebuilt. He just kept telling me it was flooded, however he couldn’t change the plugs himself. Had it not needed another rebuild, I may have saved it!

What ……. $359,999.00 starting bid.
Ha!! It was $69,900 when I posted it.
No buy it now !!
Do you think he meant to change the price to $35,999?
Agree this Z could clean up well. Full detail top to bottom and inside. Wax and buff, shampoo carpet, clean up seats, dash etc. Clean up engine compartment. Leave original.
What is with the new price on it. 359,999.00
I'm going to think he put that astronomical price in there to scare off the flippers . Says something in the ad about not wanting to see it go overseas & wants it to go to a real collector . Would imagine if a real buyer came along that really wants the car & would keep it , the price would drop accordingly . Just my guess .......
Another possibility is he had an offer that he's willing to accept, but Ebay rules aren''t allowing him to end the auction for some reason. Therefore, he put the opening bid up so high no one will bid on it, and the auction will end at a no sale, allowing him to close the deal with his buyer. That happened to a friend of mine on a project car he was selling several years ago.
It is a very nice car, however with the parts it needs, and to rebuild the engine, a lot for a 68. Knowing him though, he may get it!
Fwiw I texted the seller last Wednesday asking him what was up with the price change, and what it would take to buy it. His response was "Sold it. Sorry" Guessing he ran into the situation I mentioned in my prior post (7/05)
