Be careful gentleman
For the first time in my internet buying experience I got hosed I got a message from stephens91 saying his friend had the date for the ao wheels I wanted I venmo’d the money and now I’m out 550 and don’t have wheels
|
You got a PM on this site from a member stephens91 from a wanted ad on this site?
|
I got one from stephen91 stating his friend has a part I was looking for and gave me his email address. [email protected]
After exchanging a couple emails with them I could tell something was not right. The pictures of the part they sent me were the first ones that came up when googled. They were from a business in Florida and this person said they were in Texas. So I asked them to call me. Someone actually did call me, and I could tell it was a scam. |
I banned stephens91, 2/10, and he joined 2/9 because he screwed another member. He may have joined under another email or name previously. Stephens91 never posted on the site, although he signed up as a member. There are scammers everywhere and I would be hesitant to purchase something if a member has no history or posts. Get their name and address and google it determine if they are real or a scammer.
Also if you put your email or phone # on an ad, anyone can contact you directly. Love to see this person get their just due. |
I received a response form Stephen91 about a speedo reducer that i had posted on this site. He asked me to send a payment to; [email protected]. Asked him for a picture of it and he sent me a known file picture of the reducer. That’s when I realize it was a hoax. This happen about two weeks ago.

I had a wanted ad on Team Chevelle and someone with '0' posts and joined that very day sent me a message telling me his buddy had what I was looking for. I never responded. Some people were getting scammed over on Team Chevelle also. Sorry to hear you got screwed.
|
Wanted post are their hunting grounds... I got scammed on a bumper once... not from this site.
|
This is the phone number that called me if that helps in any way.
+1 (956) 335-3408 |
Google that phone number and you will see that he's scamming other boards as well.
|
Here is one of the emails he used [email protected] and said his name was Scott Elsdone. He got me for $150. He knows car parts quite well but writes a little like he is from South Africa. The weird thing is, once he got my money he continued to email me several more times. Usually a scammer will move on the minute he gets your money. After looking at my PayPal history it stated it was a non US transaction. It would be nice if PP would tell you that BEFORE you hit the send button.
|
I had the same email in my private messages . He said that a friend had the Lakewood LE bolts I was looking for, when I noticed the zero posts I did not respond. I have been taken in the past, had the persons phone number and home address. The local police even gave him a visit.
It truly sucks as one becomes less trusting to me this was a greater loss than the money. |
I also received a want ad PM response on Feb 9 from him with the same email. Between the wording and no post history it didn't smell right. Happy I ignored it.

FYI, Gmail addresses are very popular with the scammers.
|
If you stay in this hobby long enough....you will get burned and scammed someway somehow. It’s unfortunate but there are just too many bad people out there praying on us.
If you do....as Steve says....and use common sense. You will make wiser decisions. So sorry you got taken. I know all too well how it feels. Dan |
Stinks this is the first time in all the years I’ve been messing with cars and trucks. I shoulda been more cautious but I was excited to finally find 4 date matched ao wheels to my car. Oh well live and learn
|
Internet fraud is literally out of control. And unfortunately if and when the scammers are caught and prosecuted the courts seem to sentence them very lightly. It's a shame.

Rick,
Did you pay with goods and services, or friends and family? |
Received another one today. This one from Ray Max [email protected] who wanted to sell me a 70 Camaro for $4500 and would ship it to my house. He located me through a Yenko.net post here. I did a search and he is listed as a scammer on at least 3 sites that I found so be careful and do not correspond with this guy. He just joined Yenko.net today and was also banned today.
|
I encourage anyone who suspects they are being scammed, and it involves this site, please contact me ASAP. We certainly want to root out those perpetuating scams...

Steve,
I think I have one for you. I listed a wanted add yesterday for a pair of 68 SS Fender Emblems and received this response. ")" Zero Post and joined yesterday. "You can contact mike,he has 68 Camaro NOS SS Fender Emblems 3919197 for sale in good condition Here’s his email [email protected]" |

SAME reply and email for an NOS tail panel. I contacted, even though the sender has 0 posts. "Mike" replied he had one and wants $120 for it. I asked for pics, including the original part number tag. It is clearly a scam. Forum user name is Nicolamoore. I'm regretting contacting him thru my email, but I have a secure email address with VPN. |
Steve,
I got PM yesterday as well , form the same as luv2sixty9. I'm looking for a alternator and he said to contact [email protected]. He had zero posts |
I dont buy or deal with anyone unless I know they are a long standing member here.
|
Yep, I got a reply to a wanted ad telling me to contact phelpsmike01 also. The supposed member name here was nicolamoore, just joined yesterday.
|
"Mike" just sent me pics of an aftermarket tail panel...
|
I received the same PM on my wanted to buy wire harnesses for front parking lamps.
|
I have a wanted ad 993 Chevy heads in the site. Got a personal message from a person called nicolamoore who joined the site yesterday 6-8-2021. Told me to email this guy in Louisiana which i did and said he had the heads i wanted. I demanded i talk to him by phone. Gave me a number and i called, couldnt understand this guy at all. I asked for pictures of the cast dates on the heads, sent me two pictures with wrong date codes. Sent him a picture of what i needed. Have not heard back
Just heard back from the scammer, now says he has my January A cast date heads, yet sent me fake off the internet cylinder head pictures with the wrong date codes. BEWARE EVERYONE. Do your homework. |

|
nicolamoore is permanently banned. This Phelps idiot will strike again, via another email and IP address. We all need to be diligent, and will be speaking my programming administrator after 8pm tonight. Rally thanks for the heads up!

Thanks Steve. He actually tried to hit me up for for a transmission mount and a lower control arm bumpers. Sent me pictures from ebay . Also a contact phone number. When I called it it was answered by a guy from Louisiana he said. I tried to make conversation with him about the parts He couldn't answer my questions so I dumped the call and figured it was a scam. Glad you caught this. This is Mike Phelps phone number( 985) 241-0277 so he doesn't try this on someone else

The scammers know no boundaries.

Damn, I'm really glad I looked at this thread!! I am dealing with Mike Phelps right now! Same thing here...I received a note through this site to contact him. Well, if something seems too good to be true, it likely "isn't". I guess I won't be getting that rare deep groove pulley I'm looking for! It was for a good price too (too good to be true it now seems!)...he even sent me a photo showing the part number on it! LOL! I was having trouble sending funds with Paypal...makes me wonder why? They must have his "number"! At least I'm not out any money!

Yep, when he quoted me $120 for an NOS tail panel that sells for $700, I knew it was a scam. Hell, $120 for an NOS part ?? Sign me up for a dozen... Glad you didn't get taken. |
It looks like these guys are working overtime lately!
|
Too bad these people won't work this hard at a real job. They could do pretty well.
