Fellow Detroiters- WRIF TURNS 50

Okay, so it's not *really* related to our cars, but it kinda is. Because if you grew up in/around the Motor City, you know what those 4 letters mean. And that means a lot of gearheads will have memories of racing, wrenching, cruising with WRIF playing out their speakers. I definitely do!
Are there any other stations that have lasted 50 years without changing format? |
Remember it well, I was more of a telegraph guy than Woodward. Cruising a Green Boss 351 with WRIF cranking out some Ted Nugent, Snake Skin Cowboys..

When my daughter was living in Windsor,On we always played this station when we went down to visit as well when we crossed the border to go out for dinner-great station!
Of course near Toronto we all listen to Q107! Keep on Cruising! Dave |
Good Times...Grew up right at 13 mile and Woodward...
Remember being at the studios waiting outside on one of the many occasions "Big Daddy Arthur P. had Peter Wolf from the J. Geils Band there during interview..They were great friends...Back then Arthur P. knew all of them... Who could forget the ships horn going off with him announcing..."Its 75 rock and roll over degrees"...Real memories... Arthur would not have lasted over there these days...unfortunately.... He is still Rocking... |
I still have my D.R.E.A.D card, for those 5hat do not know what it stands for?

Detroit rockers, engaged in the abolition of disco. Still have mine. Remember Steve Dahl, famous for trashing the stadium in Chicago, during a anti disco event, steve was a DJ from WABX. Still have a tits, ass, and rock and roll bumper sticker from a WRIF party at a strip club. The juke Box, or better know as the box, a 50’s style bar on Woodward, you’d see Arthur P, Costan, some of the Red Wings, Strippers from the BoobynTrap bars, Bill Bonds from ch 7, good times. |

To say that The Riff was anti-disco would be an understatement.....These guys were playing stuff you didn't / couldn't hear anywhere...
What a great time for hearing what your "host" wanted to play...Long ago times it seems...I just saw that WRIF has a series of podcasts talking about their History...Remember Dick the Bruiser...AKA George Baier.... Good Times! |
