radio delete

did the 70 Malibu have a radio delete plate when no radio was ordered or did they all come standard with a radio

Had a plate covering the hole when no radio was ordered

A Radio was extra cost optional equipment,so you had to speak up & order one, otherwise you just got a matching grain "Cover Plate" over where the radio should've been had the buyer ordered one.
FYI~You can't really call this a "Delete Plate" as you can't delete what it really never came with in the first place.

70 Malibu radio

When you didnt order a radio they had a windshield with no antenna in it.

There is no such thing as a Radio Delete! Damn that moniker gets to me. A radio was always an option (other than the 1965 Z16 Chevelle and 1969 Torino Talladega) on muscle cars. How do you delete an option? That's like saying a 1969 Camaro SS with no vinyl top is a Vinyl Top Delete. If a car was ordered without a radio it's a no radio car.

Heater Delete and Stripes Delete (if available) were pretty much the only "deletes." Something that came standard on the car, was included in the price and could be ordered without. In the case of the heater delete you got a credit.

Stripe Delete gave you a money amount back too, usually around $10 and not $10,000.00 LOL.

When we ordered the Yellow car with the extra cost L89 ( Iron head delete ) option we couldn't afford the radio so we didn't check the radio box. WAG

SS dashes would have a plastic grained plate while a malibu dash had a steel cover plate and monte had a burlwood cover plate. I have had few of each over the years.

The dealership my Dad worked for didn't order radios in the cars and trucks. Dad would install whatever their customers decided on. Some were Brand X and some factory accessory radios. He had a box with radio plates and wiring piggybacks that I found in his stuff. I have since used or sold most of them. They were in a Chevrolet Radio box.
