1961 Catalina Bubbletop, 4 speed, 3X2s

20 Attachment(s)
Just finishing up a complete frame off resto on a rust free Catalina bubbletop. Original numbers matching engine completely rebuilt, correct dated Tri power and Borg Warner 4 speed. The 4 speed and Tri power were added before restoration by previous owners. The carbs were professionally restored and plated by Jon Havens. Complete SMS interior, all 5 eight lugs are with the car. Radio delete, 3:90 posi. I believe these 61 bubbletops are the best looking Pontiac ever built. If there is photos needed that aren't shown just ask I may have them already. Priced at $60,000 if interested message or call 217-620-3405

That is ultra nice. 61 Cat is the best looking GM “big” car ever made. This one reminds me of the black /red 62 4-speed Prix my departed friend and mentor had. He taught me there were cars other than Corvettes.

Best of luck with the sale.

That is just gorgeous Mick!

Thanks for the compliments, I am very partial to the Catalina in particular out of the 61 Pontiac line up. Bonneville's were 8 inches longer and Ventura has an excessive amount of chrome for my taste. I am working on Catalina bubbletop number 2 and it will be different in that it will have the super duty hood scoop, factory 62 cast iron super duty headers, Hurst slicks and Hurst front runners, deletes on the radio, heater, back lights and the ash trays and this time dog dish caps.

Correction, I stated the Bonneville was 8 inches longer but I just looked it up again and it is 4 inches longer, not 8. 119 inches wheel base on Catalina and Ventura and 123 inches on the Bonneville. All the extra length is in the trunk area.

----Mick,,,Question for you about this gorgeous 61. Are the separate air cleaners correct or should there be a big single (for Tri-Power) air cleaner. Seems I have seen both ways and would like to know from someone who really knows. Wish I had space for this 61 as it pushes all my buttons......Bill S

mprice 10-04-2020 08:27 PM

It should have the big single air cleaner but frankly I just don't like the looks of the big air cleaner covering the top of the engine. Most of the time the little singles ended up on them anyway. This car also originally had power steering but I pulled it and went with the manual steering because the power steering pump on these cars always looks like an after thought. They were mounted right up on top with hoses in the way and besides the car steers easily as is with the big steering wheel.

Still for sale. Where is those big spenders when I need them? Maybe that's only at the auctions.

tjs44 06-15-2021 02:17 PM

I know you like the Cats but it seems the really big buck 61s are bucket seat Venturas?Tom

mprice 06-16-2021 08:04 PM

You are probably correct but I collect what I like and from a personal taste I don't even like the flashy bucket seat Venturas. I know guys that have paid 5 and 6k for a set of bucket seats that need restored. To me real muscle cars had bench seats. I guess maybe thats why I still have it? George Poteet would like the car but he wanted an automatic in it instead of the 4 speed.

Nice car. Actually you were pretty close the first time. The Bonneville is 217" bumper to bumper on a 123" wheelbase. The Catalina is 210" bumper to bumper on a 119" wheelbase. As you said the length is in the trunk lid and the panel between the rear glass and the trunk lid. 7" length is a lot of difference !
