Pi$$ed off C8 buyer

Three of my friends who ordered C8s from local dealers at first opportunity:

1. Dave. Trades Corvettes every two years, always black, delivered about six weeks ago. N.P.

2. Terry. Generally buys two new GM products per year. Escalade, Denali etc.
He was told his 2020 C8 was canceled and was offered a 2021. Declined, told them he wanted a '20 not a '21. Told me "I got over it"

3. Keith. Trades Escalades every two years, Corvettes when he feels like it, generally every two-three years. Owns 4 vintage Corvettes now, has owned as many as 13 at one time. Was intending to buy his wife a 2021 convert.
Keith's C8 was built August 18th, FIVE WEEKS ago today. It is sitting on the ground in Bowling Green awaiting transportation, he is PI$$ED!!

Yes, there are circumstances involved in delivery of C8s, but this is no way to treat loyal customers of your high end product. Seems like GM is prioritizing EVs and the Chineese market while neglecting their loyal market base here.

I could see Terry and Keith going German and never looking back.

GM Issues Stop Delivery Order to Halt C8 Corvette Deliveries Until the Frunk Recall is Ready

Strange. I saw a carrier with five C8's on it Monday afternoon headed to Gates in Mishawaka.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with C8 shipping. There are a lot of logistics involved with shipping cars out of Bowling Green and it's different than a lot of GM assembly plants. If it's still sitting, it's most likely a QC issue.

This year has been unprecedented in the car business. The strike and Covid have been terrible for the industry.

I can’t even get a new truck, I’ve been put off till the middle of October, so I wait.

I was under the impression that the 26MPH limitation and fob revisions initiated in late August had satisfied the "Flying Frunk" issue??

Bill Pritchard 09-23-2020 05:56 PM

Glad the 2021 Tahoe I have on order (scheduled for production on 10/19) does not have a 'Frunk' to potentially fly open :)

Burd 09-23-2020 06:31 PM

So rear trunks are Runks?

No but Tahoes have their fair share of issues right now. The one I was driving had 2 issues in the first 150 miles. Service Restraint System warning going on and off intermittently and the check engine light came on this morning. We've also had a couple with the rear liftgate not operating correctly.

Great vehicles but GM's QC sucks right now.

x33rs 09-23-2020 08:42 PM

Just blame it on the beer virus, that's one everyone else does

It's been tough just getting license plates for cars this year, let alone a car. The DMV has been absolutely ridiculous to deal with. I finally got one tag mailed to me with the sticker that said "no sticker" There was no date on it. Still waiting on a real sticker to get here. It's now 2 weeks past due and we are still driving the car.
Yep, they blamed it on the beer virus

Similar deal with dad. Can't go in the DMV without an appointment and they are booked till the end of November. LOL that doesn't work when your tags expired at the end of August and they didn't send the correct stuff in the mail. Oh but wait, if you pay an extra $10 they'll get you in right now. Yeah no kidding. So they actually have openings right now but you have to pay extra. It's like a legal form of extortion.

You guessed it, blaming all this on the beer virus. So when I get pulled over I'm just going to tell the cop the same thing lol

We turned that way several years ago, and daily drive our classics. Not even remotely interested in a new car anymore.

Don’t worry about getting stuck with expired license plate sticker, officials say

DMV, police to offer ‘grace period’ for expired licenses, vehicle registrations

Quote:

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) – To reduce Oregonians’ need to visit a DMV office during the current public health emergency, the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Driver and Motor Vehicles Division said Friday it has partnered with law enforcement agencies to exercise discretion in their enforcement of driver licenses, vehicle registrations and trip permits that expire during the COVID-19 emergency declared by Governor Brown.
https://ktvz.com/news/coronavirus/20...registrations/

I believe all states have the same grace periods for license and vehicle registration renewals

x33rs 09-23-2020 11:09 PM

Thanks Stewart, I don't know about Arizona, but if they have issued a grace period we certainly haven't heard anything about it and the DMV didn't mention it when I asked them what happens when I get pulled over. They actually never answered that question, just kept telling me they are backed up till the end of November and kept blaming the beer virus. The $10 fee and we'll get you in right now is what really burned me. Not only are they blaming the beer virus for being behind and sending out blank stickers, they are now making money off of it.

I'm not worried about it, I was just making light of the situation really and pointing out all this weirdness is going on everywhere. I mean I guess it's okay as long as we just keep blaming the beer virus, lol.

Now if we can just get them to mail an actual license plate sticker instead of a blank we'd be in business lol

I bought a new Tahoe and you will like it. I think the next one will be a diesel for me.

My dealer sells about 1000 trucks a year and got down to like 20 until about the end of August they started getting a few in. Usually he has hundreds in stock. I bought my Tahoe in September and he seems to be getting a few of those in also.

He did have a corvette that was built and sitting. Not sure why

My wife renewed our relatively new car (2 years old-the one we drove up to visit you) via email/mail. Paid the fee...and no stickers came.

Called the MVD and waited an hour to talk to someone...they said, "Sorry about that, we'll mail a new one out right away". Waited 3 weeks, no tags.

Got back online paid 5 or ten dollars for a duplicate-waited two more weeks...and the initial tags we paid for showed up...almost 2 months later.

Wonder if the second or third sets will ever show? :eek2::confused2::eek2:

x33rs 09-24-2020 02:42 AM

Wow Bruce you've had it worse than I have. The lady at the DMV told me it's happening to everyone.

I heard today there is a paint problem with 2021 Tahoe and Suburbans. Something about bugs in the clear coat GM is dealing with? Bill

rsinor 09-24-2020 03:36 AM

I suspect it is simply a scheduling problem with the trucking company at this point. Unfortunately these are strange times. My C8 deposit was placed over four years ago. The car a HTC was finally built today. I won’t see it until late October. It was three weeks from production when the plant shut down in late March. It’s frustrating but I know people who have not worked since March because their work requires Airline travel, times are indeed strange.

TDW 09-24-2020 09:16 AM

I live a few miles from the Truck plant in Flint. There are acres and acres of new trucks sitting at the plants parking lots. There are so many new ones already built that GM has leased numerous large parking areas throughout the county, and those lots are all overflowing. The plant is working seven days a week building them. I'm just not getting why they say there is a shortage on new trucks.

I did find 2 places on the roof that looked like a fair sized fish eye. I wasnt too concerned about them where they were but not seen that on any of the trucks I have bought

Burd 09-24-2020 12:46 PM

I may have to go Chrysler on a truck. I give him till oct 13 like he said, then that’s it.

When production started, GM used the old naval air station in Grand Prairie as an overflow storage lot while Tahoes/Yukons were going through initial QC. There was a mayfly infestation at the naval yard and millions of them landed on and mated on the Tahoes/Yukons that were waiting there. Many of them had to be clayed and buffed. Some were bad enough that they needed to be repainted.

We received one Z71 Tahoe that was there during all of this. I could tell it had been buffed on but it looked ok. It was black so it was easy to tell.

You'll probably get the car in a week or so. For us here in North Texas, it has been taking 7 days on average to get C8s after they're built.

I like that plan

ZiggyL78 09-25-2020 04:13 AM

Meanwhile up here in the great white north the C8s are coming in. I saw my first one today. From a distance it looked like a Ferrari. Jet black and super shinney. WOW!!!
It was nice. A good friend of mine will be getting his tomorrow. I guarantee it will be the fastest one in the country when he is done.

All license fees, tags and stickers are put on hold until further notice. Great. I got a refund from my insurance company the other day for lack of use of my daily driver. I also got a bonus from the government just because I am old. ;) Life is good. We just need to wear a mask when ever we go inside any building and be smart. The biggest problem for me is no trips, no cruise nights, movies or dinners out. NP.

I've seen a couple here in SWFL, but lots of manufacturers come here to test their vehicles especially when it's winter in MI. I saw the new retro Mustang probably 3 years before it came to market, as well as other Mazdas and stuff with weird camo paint and body cladding to hide the lines of the vehicles. Also, Ford used to own a test facility here out in the Everglades as well so stuff would sneak out of there sometimes into public view.

Pics. Lol. I nab pics all the time but their in full camo. I saw 2 pull out of Delphi HQ last week.
One looked like an avalanche. I saw a de bagged right hand drive Ford one day, the guy thought he’d park in the back, I saw it. It was on the web in 5 min. Lol. I can post th3m here if anyone wants to see pt car stuff. I see them all the time.
This Ford doesn’t have that ugly swoopy window. Saw it last winter.

Billohio 09-26-2020 12:55 AM

Little off topic but my buddies mom followed a Honda around our town and she even passed it and slowed down so it passed her. Funny part, she swears there was no driver. The Honda plant is in our town. She said it was covered to hide what it was

I’d like to drive around with my car cover on. , wth. You could hardly see his brake lights through all that.
And this Jeep with this stuff sticking out on the side.

x33rs 09-27-2020 02:57 PM

LOL they still do that stuff today? I hardly see the point since most all this stuff looks identical anymore.

Bill Pritchard 09-27-2020 05:41 PM

Before GM moved their desert proving ground out to Yuma AZ several years ago, the old one used to be not too far from where I live. I used to see those 'disguised' vehicles driving around out here fairly often.

John Brown 09-27-2020 05:47 PM

I used to see some of those test fleets when they stopped to eat at Das Essen Haus in Middlebury Indiana. That was one of their favorite stops when doing test drives. Sadly I don't see them any more, since I'm retired and not traveling for work.

Keith's C8 was delivered to the dealer yesterday (Saturday), filthy dirty.
So, Monday for set-up and clean-up, delivery by Tuesday, maybe. SIX weeks after build.

He was on a forum Saturday where someone says their car was "built last week and he is driving it today". Add to that posts here stating a week to ten days after build.

Transportation logistics or QC excuse may explain a couple week delay, but six weeks??
