'66 Hemi Satellite
I don't know why these cars (and the GTX of the same era) don't pull bigger $. IMO one of the cleanest Mopar designs of the 1960s, and pretty rare as just over 500 Hemi Satellites were built in '66.

With the exception of the exterior color and mileage...my red 60K mile Satellite is identical. However, with the car here for sale, there is some funky wiring with going on with a hot wire from the positive post to the relay and the piece of wood under the tach, likely put there for support?
My car is fully documented and is the Chrysler Registry with Galen Govier's blessing. According to the Chrysler Registry; there were 817 - 1966 426 Hemi Plymouth Satellite 2 door hardtops built to specs for the USA...503 4 speeds and 314 automatics. My car was #35 of 50 built in sequence at the St. Louis, MO plant sold new in the USA. Speaking about batteries...my Chrysler battery crapped out and for the time being I'm swapping the one out from my Biscayne. Note to self: purchase new Chrysler battery in the spring. By the way my car is also for sale. If anyone is interested, please send me a PM. |
----Did you buy your Hemi from someone in Minnesota by chance?......Bill S

Okay, I'll play. Is your red car an automatic that was in Tacoma, WA 20 years ago before going to BC? My collector friend had a nice red one until he was able to replace it by getting the 1600 mile Citron Gold automatic car out of Pat McGruder's collection.

My friend sold the 1600 mile car around 2005 and used the money to buy a new Ford GT. Late yenko.net member Paul Denhert bought it at Barrett Jackson shortly thereafter. It was sold no reserve after Paul’s death at auction a few years later for about half (!) it’s previous sale to the attentive Charley L., who knows a bargain when he sees one and served as a quick conduit to a friend’s collection. Last he told me, his friend still has it. It’s still the “newest” old car I’ve ever been in. Here's the link to the Mecum auction it was in: https://www.mecum.com/lots/SC0511-10...emi-satellite/

Wow..sold for 60K @MECUM in 2011.

Bill, we'd heard about the Challenger after my friend bought the Satellite. A number of years ago, the last I knew Bob Perkins had somehow ended up with the original Polyglas tires off of it (to sell to his Boss 302/429 clientele) but got connected with the newest owner of the Challenger and proceeded to sell them (for something like $10k) to put back on it. Maybe Perkins still knows where it is, somebody can chat him up at MCACN.
|
----Thanks, Tom! That fills in a void. That Challenger should absolutely come to MCACN as back when I saw it (circa 1980-82) the car was unbelievable.....Bill S
