whats the point of beating the crap out of a classic like that?

x33rs 06-24-2020 10:43 PM

Fun!

Not much different than beating them at the track, which is my favorite pass time.

big gear head 06-25-2020 01:05 AM

Yeah, that was kind of pointless and hard to watch. I've seen too many videos of people doing that kind of stuff and wiping out their nice car.

markinnaples 06-25-2020 02:00 AM

A real 1969 Z/28 RS/SS? Hmmmmmm.....

300deluxe 06-25-2020 03:02 AM

The car is just fine...the tires got trashed....the car just got a little dose of what it used to do a few decades ago. I used to take my buddies "roadin" in my 69 Chevelle on gravel roads in the 80's...driving on wet gravel roads, driving in the rain...guess what, the car is still around, it didn't die, its doing just fine.

GM Powertrain 06-25-2020 03:19 AM

Not sure what the appeal of doing donuts is. They're both calling it a Z/28 RS SS. SMH...

MosportGreen66 06-25-2020 09:59 AM

I stopped watching at “Z28/RS/SS”

JoeC 06-25-2020 10:40 AM

black grill, caution fan decal , aftermarket Hurst, RS , Z/28 , cowl hood, custom interior, endura bumper, popular color

makes it look like a common clone from 20 years ago

clone builders liked to load them up like that and bring them to the auction

427 06-25-2020 10:50 AM

While I prefer to eat my donuts, my fav part was seeing an awesome Z like that. It screamed time capsule...and it looked like it could really take a punch. Quite a testament to a 51 year old classic imho.

Just an FYI, RS Z's are supposed to have black grills. The only exception to that would be a black RS Z, in which case the grill would be silver.

Aside from the many things we can all pick apart, it was fun to watch the guy drive the wheels off of it. Better than sitting in a pole building full of cars and it seldom being used.

Best part was the grin on his face. You just can't fake that!

Agree, It's all about having fun. The only thing that made me cringe a little are what appeared to be the $1400 tires he was doing it with, lol. If they were in fact the correct E70's.... I generally reserve that kind of behavior for cheap radials.

He might have an inside connection for those tires, he did it here too...lol

What did I miss????

cruiserofland 06-26-2020 04:13 PM

I think I borked it by commenting, then editing the comment to add a link which maybe I don't have permissions to do yet as a new member so my post is in limbo
I was commenting to add how rare it is to see a LeMans Blue RS Z with blue deluxe interior, then looked it up and found out it's so rare that Chevy never built that combo!

That's what they are for.

In my opinion theres a big difference between running your car down a dragstrip (which I very much condone) and sliding a muscle car sideways in every direction with ZERO respect to the car.

You condone drag racing? Coming from a guy that builds race engines? lol

From what I see in the video he's actually pretty smooth with the car, low rpm, and not much abuse other than the tires. I'm much harder on the cars at the dragstrip. But then again, I hear similar comments from people that think I'm crazy for daily driving our RS Z. I don't own these things to stare at them in the garage. :beers:

Mr70 07-01-2020 12:46 PM

Condone means to approve, allow & accept,so in the case of Drag racing,he used that correctly.

x33rs 07-01-2020 12:56 PM

I read that backwards lol

Sorry Mark, I did think it was odd to see a comment like that coming from you, of course reading it as the opposite of what you meant of course. Hence my question marks.

Mr70, thanks for making me read that again.

:beers:

My mistake - I misread the CRG page with 1969 Color Combinations. Those charts are recommendations "as established by GM Styling" but a ZP2 color trim code would override and let a customer pick what they wanted...

Nice car, glad to see it being driven. Have to say though, that I would’ve preferred to see a professional driver doing that on a track or closed circuit.

Now that would be a cool idea, watching a professional driver sling a completely stock Z around Watkins Glen, Road America, or the like, would be entertaining to watch. Kind of like the old road and track day road tests with Bud Lindemann.
