It’s being preserved and restored in areas by the current owner.

Its strange that a 1200 mile car would have non original spark plug wires and no shielding, or is that because it was radio delete it didnt have that

muscle_collector 06-24-2020 03:15 AM

how does a car with 1200 miles have an engine that greasy and dirty?

The "California collector" purchased it and then it was sold again. I guess that's twice.

L72copocamaro 06-24-2020 05:41 AM

That was a hard 1200 miles. I'd expect the tires to be redlines or whitewalls, but I suppose blackwall were possible too.

Starship 06-24-2020 12:06 PM

Being a non-radio car, it won't have ignition shielding or braided wires. Does look like more than 1200 miles though.

TimG 06-24-2020 12:29 PM

Hopefully it will surface some day so we can see it.

MosportGreen66 06-24-2020 03:18 PM

Let's not hate on this car... story is well know. Hit hard in the pass rear. Current owner is posting pics of it on Facebook. He's not hiding a thing. I'll share this - Amazing real frame paint. Amazing frame stencil. Amazing paint/primer/undercoat/black out application on inside of inner fenders. NO ONE RESTORING THESE CARS GETS THAT RIGHT. PERIOD.

While it was hit hard and will be restored/preserved, I've learn from the survivor aspects already and I saw like 10 photos.

Do you have the facebook link? Does it show the damage? Just curious as to how badly it was hurt back in the day.

olredalert 06-24-2020 09:43 PM

----I saw a pic of it somewhere and the damage was substantial but nothing that couldn't be taken back to new with a bit of effort......Bill S

Everything I see on the car looks to be 100% legit.
As far as the dirt and oil;
1) It's well known locally that longest storage was in a working farm barn, a very dusty dirty environment.
2)Spraying of oil(s) on stored items was and is a accepted way to protect. Seen it more than few times myself.
3) A co-worker of his relayed that he basically carried something out of MACK TRUCKS in Hagerstown in his lunch box everyday. (a good source of lubricants and such).

From what I've heard going back about 20 years when I first heard of it... 100% real local legend.

Well then that does explain why the engine is so dirty. I think the rest of the car seem fine, just the engine seems like it has 50K miles.

To bad this is now just going to be a collection/museum car! It's not going to be out and driven due to the extremely low milage....Be nice to have a second one for driving.

SBR 06-25-2020 03:07 PM

Dan, please post the FB link if you can. I heard the owner was chasing the car for decades. I'm happy he got it.

Since a picture tells a thousand words, here is a pic of the rear when I was offered this car. It can also be seen below the first post of this thread.

ssl78 06-25-2020 03:45 PM

Does only having 1200 miles on this car really add any value. It really needs everything and could never be a survivor.

You may need to be friends with the owner to follow? I won't disclose his name but I will show him this thread and if he chooses to post more info, we should welcome it.

WOW, great photos. It is very cool in so many ways. It is certainly worth saving. I'm sure the tank/tank sticker is gone.

Thank you for posting these, Dan.

Thanks for the pics and updates! I'm interested to see how the restoration/preservation turns out. Car was local to me and I worked at Hoffman Chev for a few years, 05-2010.

Here's a link to the newspaper story in case you had trouble reading that tiny print like I did:

Great pix Dan, so much to learn there!! Thanks for sharing!!

olredalert 06-27-2020 04:29 PM

----A lot of mid-year Corvettes got complete rear clips in south Florida. I'm sure it's the same across the US. We actually used to call them "zipper cars". Some were done correctly but many weren't. This one will be done really well I'll bet and you won't even know it was ever damaged!.....Bill S

ssl78 06-27-2020 05:13 PM

Did all 67 Corvettes master cylinders only have 1 bleeder.

olredalert 06-27-2020 06:39 PM

----I believe that some had two......Bill S

No DC master cylinder had one bleeder. It's hard to notice at first but the pic of the master from this car shows two bleeders.

Best,
Dave
