NOS Cowl Plenum on ebay
|
I believe that is a 1967 Camaro unit since it has only one indent for the distributor. The 1968 unit would have two indents for distributor and air pump.

Air Filter Element alone is worth some $$
|
Has anyone ever reproduced these in the past?
They look so trick under the hood and doesn't seem to be too difficult to make a high-quality one. Just curious- because you rarely see this on a car in person. |
Yes, they are being reproduced.
|
The reproductions are fiberglass, not steel.
|
The bottoms are steel; the housing, lid and plenum duct are fiberglass.

Do the reproduced ones use the same filter element? Have an original and can't find a filter to fit.

Definitely some old posts back to 2009. But Good Alternative options mentioned here for air filters. Especially given it will never be seen inside the plenum. CP is a great Conversation piece anytime the hood is open :)

I believe Steve closed his business about a year ago.

Steve's Camaro's (Steve Pardini) closed his business as Warren stated.

I tried Heartbeat's and it's the same as the parts stores AC Delco A697C 8997189. It's roughly 7/16 too tall. Didn't take it back and couldn't locate anything that would work so cut it down and used windshield urethane to bond the rubber seal down to the element. Actually works and looks good but rather spend an hour elsewhere.

The Chevelle unit and Camaro unit both use the same A226CW filter. The cowl plenum shown in your post at the top of this page appears to be a repro which uses the more commonly available 17" diameter lid. It has a rubber seal in the outer groove whereas the real cowl plenum lid is 16-3/4" in diameter and does not have a rubber strip for sealing to the base. The "697' filter will fit with the larger diameter lid because it was designed to use that filter in the first place. The larger diameter lid is used for the repro because it looks close enough that most people don't catch it, uses a commonly available filter, and means there is one less piece to have to tool up to get made.

I "JUST" tried a New ACDELCO A697X in My NKR Camaro CP (Cowl Plenum) unit with a 16-3/4" diameter lid without any rubber gasket designed and the New filter was to tall. (Bummer) NKR supplied a WIX 46948R with a rubber compression tube glued to the bottom. https://www.amazon.com/Wix-46948R-Ai.../dp/B00LFVWPGU JIM |

Is NKR still in business? Does he have a website?

I bought the last two second design White ink stamped 226 CW filters from Steve a year ago. I kept one and shared the second one with a fellow member...I recently was able to purchase the first design with the embossed raised lettering. I was glad to finally finish my CP setup

$7,995 is a pretty good return on the $124.00 investment...
