Amazing '70 #s 455HO/4-sp Grand Prix

The only thing more impressive than the drivetrain is the color combo - first time I've seen red/white/saddle on a GP. Kinda wish the interior had been ordered in the Pearl/Parchment color, but overall, it's pretty sharp.

Bidding is really strong, currently at $35,700 with the reserve not yet met.

Man - that’s got it all!! 455HO, 4 speed, A/C, color combo, nice resto (what is viewable) :3gears:

I absolutely adore the dashes in these cars!

----Charley,,,Was this the 70 that you owned way back? I would think it has to be as the combination is rare. Couldn't help but notice the lack of power windows. I saw the car when a crazy guy from the Chicago area owned it, and tried to buy it but money was too strong for me back then. Beautiful GP!!!......Bill S

Bill... yes, this is our old car that Charley & I sold back & forth to each other a couple of times. Its changed hands probably 7 or 8 times since then. Car still looks good for being done in the early 90's. Photo from the 1993 POCI Convention in Irvine, CA when Charley allowed me to drive the car down and show it.

These cars are gorgeous imo, really rare combo of high luxury and musclecar (if you wanted it that way) No wonder they seem to be very hot lately

olredalert 02-17-2020 03:18 PM

----Thanks, Grant! I knew you were involved with this car as well as Charley. Don't know why I didn't type your name as well. It really does look excellent for an older resto!......Bill S

That car is sweet!

Is the Formula wheel stock? I didn't know Formulas wheels were available on grand Prixs. Of course, I didn't know you could get a 455HO 4 spd Grand Prix either.

----Grant would know better, but I think they were available only in 70 and only part of the year. Would love to have one on my 69 SJ but at least I have a nice deluxe wheel.....Bill S

Yes, the Formula wheel was an option beginning in '70 on the GP and through '72 I believe.

I assume since 455HOs were available and Formula steering wheels that you could order Honeycombs too? That would be the bomb.

fortim 02-18-2020 12:33 AM

I believe Honeycombs were available starting in '71.

olredalert 02-18-2020 03:54 PM

----I ordered honeycombs on my 72 GP SJ as well as just about every other option. Great car, but sold it to my cousin in 1973. I always wanted a 69 SJ and now have it......Bill S

grantprix 02-19-2020 05:17 AM

Bill... what were the colors of your '72? Got any old photos of it? The '69 is my favorite too, with the two available 428 engines and those hidden inner door handles are just to cool.

olredalert 02-19-2020 03:03 PM

----Grant,,,The 72 was pewter with a white vinyl top and matching pewter gut. I also ordered the fabric bucket option which I have to believe would make it extremely rare today. I have asked my cousin if he remembers who he sold it to and he doesn't have a clue. I'm guessing it's gone, but I keep sort of looking for it!......Bill S

Bill... no kidding, I had a loaded '72 J with the 455 in the same colors except a black top and with the standard vinyl interior. I do like the look of the '71-'72 cloth seats and they seem to be far more durable than the vinyl in those years. That would be great if you could find your old SJ... Grant

Relisted with a $50,900 BIN price.

----Grant,,,I have always been a sucker for silver/white combos. I ordered the 72 from a dealer on Cape Cod, but knew that I was going back to south Florida so in my mind the fabric was a good choice.....Bill S
