Speaking of Weird...Bricklin

Did a dumb thing and bought a 75 Bricklin SV1. On the plus side it only has 75 miles on it. Yes the color is safety orange....

Crush 02-01-2020 01:21 AM

That’s kinda cool!

njsteve 02-01-2020 01:38 AM

Was the door recall/repairs done? (if not, Make sure you don't trap yourself inside without a way to call for help).

Got the 351 Ford version instead of the AMC drivetrain, I see.

Cool!

L_e_e 02-01-2020 01:42 AM

Even weirder is I was just looking at a 74 SV-1 with 2,900 miles

Luvchevs 02-01-2020 01:45 AM

Cool addition Charley.
I assume this was recently at LMC here in Ontario, Canada?
I know it was being sold as a pair with a low mile green one.
I remember seeing a bunch of these on an RV dealers lot back in the day. I guess Bricklin didn’t have their own dealerships.

Dave

Mr70 02-01-2020 02:09 AM

If it was right hand drive,it would be weirder. :)

Charley Lillard 02-01-2020 02:46 AM

Yes it was at Legendary. Me and one of the Brothers bought both..neither of us are sure why.
Yes the door recall was done. Very elaborate with a air pump under the hood and a air tank inside the rear bumper. Air cylinder raises the door. Drivers door not working.

the427king 02-01-2020 03:11 AM

How much do you want for it?

mssl72 02-01-2020 04:46 AM

Are ya gonna do a burn out for us??

earntaz 02-01-2020 01:05 PM

Is that a Vega shifter ... ??

markinnaples 02-01-2020 03:36 PM

Always thought those were really cool. My neighbor bought a white one new back in the 70's and one time had a group of Bricklin owners over his house for a get together. It was neat seeing all of the different colors, especially back in the 70's when these were new and exotic looking. I think the design has held up well as it doesn't look dated, at least to me.

What are your plans for it? Always thought those had such potential to make into a really neat driver/cruiser, but with only 75 miles, man, I'd be torn on what all I would do to it with miles that low.

PeteLeathersac 02-01-2020 04:24 PM

'

If from Ontario Canada, was the previous owner MS?:hmmm:
:beers:

Nope.

Mr. Chevy 02-01-2020 04:45 PM

That's cool it's different. I see yours has the 351 in it.

Was this one ever in Ohio? Back in the 80's I stored my car in a building Ohio George had next to one of these and I remember it only had about 20 or 30 miles on it then. Same color.

Charley Lillard 02-01-2020 05:54 PM

I think it was in Ontario Canada it entire life. One guy had three of them. One to drive and two put away.

Cool car! I remember seeing a few back home in the 80s. I’m assuming that the window sticker is just a typo and that the VIN on the plate is the one on the ownership (title). 2 for Canadian built and all.

75 miles... I think I’ve pushed my car more than that in the last 30 years.

markinnaples 02-02-2020 02:08 PM

How does it drive Charley?

Charley Lillard 02-02-2020 02:12 PM

Dunno yet. Fixed the drivers door opening and now replacing the drivers door glass due to the poor design of the air operated doors.

njsteve 02-02-2020 03:37 PM

I think Charlie is too scared to close the doors while inside.

Post a photo of you inside with the doors closed. I dare ya!

I double-dog-dare ya!

Luvchevs 02-02-2020 07:27 PM

45 year old car with 75 miles, how cool is that!
Nice docs you have with the car Charlie!
Really not a car you want to drive around much be so original but a real GEM that's for sure!

GM Powertrain 02-02-2020 08:56 PM

My Uncle worked on the owners manual for those cars. Remember him bringing one over to the house. Thought it was super cool with those doors. Wonder if the AMC 360 or 351 ran harder. I'm guessing the 360.

John Brown 02-02-2020 09:35 PM

They actually weigh 3900 pounds? :dunno:

marxjunk 02-02-2020 09:37 PM

i worked on more than a few of those when i was a kid, i worked at a dealership and we did a lot of door, window and body repairs to the doors and rook skin..the door actuators had so much pressure..it just killed the roof skins/structure....St Louis had a ton of them..they are prob all in Canada now..theres a guy up there that had the intent of buying everyone he could find..he may not be with us anymore...its been a long long time..he was running adds in Hemmings etc...he parted a ton of them out..bought a ware house of all the NOS stuff i think that was left..he was the go to guy for decades

Ive always like them..always...id street rod one if i could find a decent one...but i dont need another project...lol

looking back..it was the early to mid 80s...when i worked at that shop..time flies....

JoeC 02-04-2020 03:54 PM

too bad the Bricklin movie roles were not as big as the DeLorean in "Back to the Future"

Burd 02-04-2020 06:43 PM

Never knew the story on the Bricklins. Thanks.

If any interest, I have a lot of the Brickline Newsletters and some dealer brochures and service manuals. Just thought I would mention it. Thanks

ORIGLS6 02-06-2020 03:56 AM

75 miles huh? I bet the cigarette lighter's never been used!

SBR 02-09-2020 11:26 PM

Great time capsule, I've always liked the Bricklin.

flyingn 02-10-2020 01:48 AM

we went to the Hershey auto museum a few years ago one ago and stumbled upon a Bricklin only char show there. Never seen so many in one spot and talk about diehards? they came from the midwest to attend this show with their Bricklins. Crazy about their Bricklins, they are

Charley Lillard 02-10-2020 12:38 PM

I wonder how many had doors that didn't work right. Really goofy setup with the air cylinders. If there is not enough air pressure in the tank the doors only open part way and you have to push them up the rest of the way but they will come back down to whatever the air pressure can manage to hold.

TimG 02-10-2020 12:48 PM

The Bricklin was one of the bright spots of the mid 70's, and orange was the best color.

Cool car, Charley.
