Friend of a friend chased this car forever, finally go it, and man was it worth it. 68 SS/RS L78, orig everything except for headers, wires, tires and filters. Orig (hammered) paint, drivetrain never out of car (runs real wheel), bought from orig owner who kept every piece of paper since new. LOADED with options, tilt wheel, quad stereo thingy, real time piece.

Very cool. Would like to add it to my database if you don’t mind sending me the info. Thanks & congrats to the new owner.

JRSully 01-08-2020 12:24 AM

Next time I get over there, I'll see if I can grab it

markinnaples 01-08-2020 12:30 PM

Wow, that's a find. I'd imagine the MCACN attendees would love to see it this year.

purple panther 01-08-2020 12:36 PM

whats that line going over the heater hoses? fuel?

BCreekDave 01-08-2020 01:02 PM

Interesting...double alternator belts? Due to radio-multiplex option?
Looks to be loaded with options.

Charley Lillard 01-08-2020 01:05 PM

Wow...MCACN please. Congrats on him getting it.

L78

Another one with double belts on the alternator. I bet the car was built in LA? That’s the fourth totally original L78 I have seen with double belts . Would like to see the fan and clutch. I can bet it has the Eaton fan clutch. The double belts have nothing to do with the smog .

The double belts are crazy looking. Have photos of the other three original cars if anyone would like to see them.

would be interesting to see what number is on the alternator

dykstra 01-09-2020 12:43 PM

So cool! Thanks for posting.

302moz 01-09-2020 01:28 PM

Alternator

The alternator part number on a 67 would be the 693 . The 68 would be the hard to find 814 .

BCreekDave 01-09-2020 01:33 PM

Was there a heavy duty alternator option? That might explain the dual belts.

Mr70 01-09-2020 01:36 PM

Very nice,What's going on with the headliner?

302moz 01-09-2020 01:51 PM

Alternator

No heavy duty alternator. 693 is the base 37 amp

NorCam 01-09-2020 03:23 PM

Love the car. Red on red deluxe interior survivor and an L78 = Score of the year material.

JRSully 01-09-2020 09:55 PM

BTW, was told this car spent its entire life outside under a carport

Appears to be fuel line, probably re-routed and 'insulated' due to heat from headers.

cook_dw 01-09-2020 10:48 PM

Fuel lines are common to be moved when headers are installed
