Dz blocks

ran across a super nice dz block & crank been in storage since mid 1970s standard bore & crank is standard what are these worth ??

RALLY 01-07-2020 01:20 AM

Good DZ 1178 cranks go for 700.00-800.00 hundred dollars from what i experienced. DZ legit block could be around 3,000 dollars.

Standard block with a good date will typically be anywhere from 3K to 4K. Hard to find dates can push the envelope. Cranks anywhere between $600 to $1200 and standard/standard grinds always seen to go towards the higher end. Are the rods and slugs still there?

ALLZS 01-07-2020 02:12 AM

what are the good dates ? he says he has the rods & pistons just has to locate them

NorCam 01-07-2020 04:12 AM

I think they're all good but April - May dates are the ones I noticed were in High demand. Lots of 05A cars built but for some reason there never seemed to be many blocks for sale in the V04 to V05 range.

ALLZS 01-07-2020 12:49 PM

this block was cast E-18-9 & built 0604

My 06A Z has identical dates as this one.

ALLZS 01-07-2020 02:55 PM

I was told that all june built cars had the 06A build dates on the trim tag

But if it isn't the original block to the car its not really worth that kind of money in my opinion.

ALLZS 01-08-2020 12:30 PM

yes that would be nice to find the car it belongs to if it is still alive ??

Jonesy 01-08-2020 04:15 PM

Partial VIN will be down on the rough casting area by oil filter.

Unreal 01-08-2020 08:30 PM

You sure it's not a Ford? I see a little Ford Blue paint! :)

ALLZS 01-08-2020 09:38 PM

looks like N684512 THE N&6 are very light but the 84512 is clear

Mr.Nickey Nova 01-08-2020 10:29 PM

It's good that you can read most of the vin. Most times, you can't read the vin down by the oil filter. I heard that some blocks weren't stamped with a vin, if this is true??

ALLZS 01-08-2020 10:33 PM

the guy that stamped must have been right handed !

Jonesy 01-08-2020 11:01 PM

You sure about that second number being an 8? That would make this engine a bit too early for that VIN. Is it a 5 or 6?? Got pics??

rszmjt 01-08-2020 11:05 PM

Seems a lot of blocks the N is not as clear, the fonts probably wore a lot from repeated use at the Norwood plant.

I’ve seen a few blocks with no vin, last one was a 02 car

ALLZS 01-09-2020 07:54 PM

its light but it maybe N564512

Kurt S 01-10-2020 05:29 AM

N6 is OK. The next digit is the problem.... probably a 6??
Look like N664512?

ALLZS 01-10-2020 10:18 PM

After closer inspection it looks like -N684512

DZ blocks take forever to sell and nowhere near 4K. Had 3 over the last five years. Not much value except if you find the the original car, as has been said, then who knows what that person will pay you for it. eBay and the various chevy & Camaro classifieds are littered with them. Seems they are slowly becoming conversation pieces and garage art?
