Yenko 615382 at Mecum Kissimmee
I know that this car has been discussed ad nauseam in the past, but I'm trying to get the registry notes accurate. The auction description says that the 2 cars have been re-united into the current car going up for auction. So - does anybody know how much of the race car is actually in the auction car? Did the race car get the VIN plate and trim tag back? IMO - it would be good to close the loop on what finally happened. That long discussion deserves closure.

… Did any Yenko Camaros come with chambered exhaust ? … It would be nice to know the complete story on this car. … but I do like the color … :cool2: … https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0120-39...-yenko-camaro/ ... |

Auction description.....
Please note the Yenko community has questioned the authenticity of Yenko Camaro YS9637 because several years ago two different cars claimed to have serial number 124379N615382. Early in this car’s life it was competitively drag raced. After retiring from racing, the car was placed in storage. Over the years, some major components were sold to different people. During the car’s most recent restoration, the all pertinent components were reunited. This correctly-restored Hugger Orange 1969 Yenko Camaro represents the pinnacle of performance that emerged from the muscle car era. |

lots of old discussion, but the question is - does "pertinent components reunited" just mean that the original VIN plate and TT were put back on the non-Yenko body? Seems like the original race car body is a "pertinent component" too.

what a shock its being auctioned. Wonder how they will represent it??
|
I would think they would have a lot of documentation photos of the second restoration if they had collected all the original parts including both cars
|
The first time I saw this car was in 2005 at the Mecum auction near Chicago when it was sold as a part of Keith Hutson's Yenko collection. It was represented as a low mileage car with an older restoration. Steve Schultz bought the collection and all five cars were displayed at the Gilmore Auto Museum for a period of time. The next time I saw this car was at the Fall 2011 auction at Auburn where I took the pictures that are on my Supercar Photographs thread. It was at that time I noticed the trim tag showed it was an X66 car which I thought was strange since it was an 03B car with a body number of NOR219743. The car did have the X66 trim with the blacked out tail panel at that time which I thought only the 01B cars had. The car has been at a number of Mecum auctions since I saw it in Auburn and I show that it sold at Mecum in Dallas in both 2013 and 2017. In comparing the photos I have from 2011 to the photos on the Mecum website for Kissimmee it looks like the same car although it has been freshened up some. Particularly under the hood. I don't know who owns this car now or what happened to the race car that supposedly had the same hidden VIN that Tommy T. owned back in 2007. It would be cool if the old race car was actually restored and reunited with it's original VIN tag.

So this car IS a rebody? Sounds like the original Yenko body was a race car and "all pertinent components were reunited", but NOT on the original Yenko body shell from 1969.
And to those who are not only smarter than me, but actually have info on this. WHAT would happen if the ORIGINAL YENKO RACE CAR BODY gets found, restored and comes to light? What happens to the guy who owns this car? Who gets ownership of the covenant YS9637 title? |
I would not buy it...................I would highly suspect the "Original body" will never be re-united....

In the scenario I described, the person who created the fake car had died. There was literally nobody left to sue....and it wouldn't have mattered much, the profit was long gone spent....

Marlin, in Canada the debt would stay forever with a court judgement. So even if the $$$ were spent, you can put a lien against there house. NOTHING can happen with there house now until lien is cleared. Suck but at least there is a small pot bat the end of the rainbow at least.

I think it just hammered down at 150K?

I know the guy who bought it sure looked happy. So other than the VIN tag how much of the original car did he actually buy? I never saw any pictures of the original car in racecar form when it was purchased in 2007, but apparently there were photos of at least one of the hidden VIN's. At that time the entire drivetrain was gone and I believe it had a fiberglass frontend. The car at Kissimmee appears to be the same car that I saw for the first time in 2005 at Mecum Chicago. Both cars existed at the same time so it's not like they can say the racecar was restored and this is it.
Are there any known Yenko's after the first 50 that were X66 cars from the factory? I know there are a couple of 02D cars that are supposedly X66 cars, but I have never seen their trim tags. |
did anyone hear how this car was represented @ mecum?

Charlie and others, the way I read that is:
this Yenko was a racecar then parked. Parts were sold off and someone made a second car with the same VIN. AT THIS LAST RESTO, ALL THE PARTS HAVE BEEN REUNITED ON THE ORIGINAL RACECAR BODY???? Now I know from this site that is NOT the case, but that is they was I see it being represented. I think the $$$ are should that it's a rebody too. I would say more than a bit misleading as they never stated that this is a rebody or NOT the original racecar shell restored. That is the way I read it? Maybe it's a CANADIAN thing and I'm lost in the exchange..... |
