1969 Olympic Gold Nankivell Yenko YS-9034
4 Attachment(s)
Congratulations to Doug Perry who is now the proud owner of the 1969 Olympic Gold Nankivell Yenko Vin#124379N579034 or YS-9034. I am posting this for Doug.
The car was bought out out of the state of Illinois off the long term owner who has owned the car since 1976. The car was purchased new by a Rick Barratt of Indy at Nankivell Chevrolet in Indianapolis in May 1969. Jim Nankivell used the car as a demo before being sold to Rick. Once Rick bought the car he proceeded to remove all the Yenko decals/emblems and the car was then street raced around Indy. Then the car was used as a race car and proceeded to be raced at Raceway Park, Muncie Dragway, Edgewater Dragway, Milan Dragway, Beech Bend and others. We are currently researching more into the history of this car. |
Big Congrats Doug. We would love to follow along!!!!!! Couldn't imagine going cold-turkey after you finish up your Superman sYc!!!!

Thanks everyone...sorry for coming to the party so late tonight....I was traveling all over the state today for work...duty calls I guess. First of all I want to say that I have a special group of friends that went above and beyond to help me with this car. If it wasn’t for them this special car would not have surfaced as well as the history would have been lost. The car resided in Indiana, Iowa and Illinois. A huge thank you to my Iowa family Deuce Heaven (Ken and Joe Shoenthaler) for providing me with the owners information....they had known about the car for years (25 or more). Joe and Ken met me at the owners home about 3 weeks ago...It was a small world because Troy (the owner) and Ken knew all the same people. They only live 30 minutes apart. Thank you Ken and Joe. By the way ...the fried chicken dinner with...Shawn, Joe and Ken was outstanding. I promised Troy the owner that I would share all information that we find...and we have done just that. Troy is a true gentleman. After loading up the car I headed back east to Ohio for my 7 hour drive (all alone) ...so I called a good friend Matt Lamer and provided him with a few previous owners names...and Matt took it from there...he has found out everything as we know it today including the original owner and race history...Matt I owe you a big bottle of Captain Morgan’s in Chicago in 2 weeks. Thank you ...you are truly gifted with knowledge and the ability to find information. We only have 2 weeks until Chicago so we have been focused on finishing up some small details on the 67 Yenko with Frank Arone. The group that has went above and beyond deserve ALL the credit....Frank Arone, Matt Lamer, Matt Barczak, Dave McGaffee, Joe and Ken Schoenthaler, Tom Scholtz, John Weaver, my girlfriend Amy and her son Lane along with my son Austin....you folks made all of this possible.

What a great story and a amazing group of people. Congrats Doug. Every time I think, Wow Doug found another killer car. You seem to raise the bar, one more time. Looking forward to seeing you all in a few weeks.

|
Congrats Doug. Great car, great history and great photos. Very cool.

Doug, Is like a prospector, of Super cars. He finds all the Gold! BBBenny
|
Of course I appreciate all Yenkos, but one that was raced, the ultimate. Being a Gold car would look awesome restored, but I would have to put the old girl back like her racing days and and hit the 1/4.
