Original 1960s Detroit Dragway Trophy
I don't typically come across this stuff, and to be honest I rarely see anything from Detroit Dragway, even in this area. This is a nice trophy, wood and diecast, that should clean up to a very nice condition. My primary concern with this trophy was the apparent oxidation on the 'Detroit Dragway Champion' plaque but in reality it still has the protective plastic peel-off surface on it! Unreal....
I'd like $150 plus shipping for this. Pics below: https://photos.smugmug.com/SYc-Site/...42CD1E7-XL.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/SYc-Site/...643785B-XL.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/SYc-Site/...2CE06FF-XL.jpg |
Nice piece, my old Ls6 convertible raced there

Very cool!

----Motor City Dragway is directly behind a good friend of mines business on 26 mile road. You really have to dig thru the underbrush to find anything, but cool knowing it was there. As it happens he is heavily into high performance of all kinds, but leans towards the marine side with a 41 ft. Apache with 2 1150 hp. supercharged big blocks. Google Allez Vite 41 Apache and you will see what I mean......Bill S

Yes - wish we had more OPEN tracks around here! Evidently the former owner of Lapeer Dragway is playing the NIMBY card to limit its hours of operation...if that one goes away we’re stuck with Milan as the only Metro Detroit option....

Still available - now $100

That doesn't sound like something Ed would do.... Got more details on this? K |

Cool place to check out, I did it a few years ago. You gotta see it while it’s still there. We stopped by one of my buddy’s friends, he has a few. I as in a barn, like rite down the road, maybe he’s on here. |
Tony, do you know the Dixieland Flea Market ? There is a dealer there that has a Detroit Dragway trophy that I was thinking of buying. It is a weird one, as it has the Eiffel Tower as well as the car ? I posted a picture on the DD FB page and was immediately shot down as the moderator said it was bogus. That was until an identical one showed up on E Bay in Maryland.

Want me to check on it? K |
Thanks Keith, Last time I was there was in the spring and he still had it.It has been there for at least a year before that. The plate on it looks too new to me, plus he wanted $250 . Now, how to describe which dealer it is ... if you go to the back where the food concession is, he has an enclosed room just to the right. Not on the back wall, but free standing. He is just next to my friend Kris who has the mountain of vinyl records for sale. In his booth he has a lot of non auto antiques. Cannot remember the name of the dealer. I'd be interested to hear what you think about it.

Just to be clear, I am not a customer at this point so if you want it go ahead. I'd buy Tony's first but this one is so odd with the Eiffel Tower. Now if it had the name of either of the owners of my 69 Biscayne engraved on it (Ed Carpenter or Dick Ross) I would own it by now!
|
I remember a Dick Ross from around here!
They typically didn't engrave the winner's name, at least for the smaller local wins. None of the trophies we won had our name on them. K |

I don't remember that specific car but I do remember he was "Mr Chevy" or some such thing.
