69 Endura Bumper Originality Confirmation

4 Attachment(s)
I'm looking for additional confirmation as to the originality of this mint Endura Bumper. I believe that it is original, but it helps to get someone's knowledgeable opinion / experience also.

It was just removed from the car today, so I was able to see it mounted and it fit like a glove.

need better pics of inner bracket on the bumper

Barry,
Here are the pics that I think you are requesting.

It's an original but may not be original to the car. In production, only the face was painted. Cars built with the VE3 bumper had an adapter riveted to the jack loadrest, usually painted blue.

Just for the record, Chevy did not use the 'Endura' trade name in marketing the bumper. It is listed in factory documentation as Special Front Bumper; the showroom brochure refers to it as 'Color-Matched resilient bumper'. The Canadian brochure refers to it as the 'Astro' bumper.

Did these get painted after being installed on the from clip? I would expect a different paint would be used.

What's it weigh?

Doubt it. Never saw an original with overspray on the brackets. Would have required a lot of masking.

Seen a few NOS, serviced in black primer.

luv2sixty9 12-22-2018 05:15 PM

I have another one that was original paint and the back is black not body color nor was there any sign of over spray.

bbbentley 12-22-2018 05:38 PM

:scholar:I will stick my neck out and say it is a real GM piece. I go by the injection mold plug right in the inside center of the “V”. And I will have to look, seems there is some overspray on the backside (mine may have been repainted at one time, though?:scholar:

cook_dw 12-22-2018 06:11 PM

Confirm measurements but I; along with others here, believe it’s GM.

One of many "innovations" that originated at Pontiac :)

Is this John Delorean in the commercial ?

NorCam 12-23-2018 03:52 PM

I love that

Mr70 12-23-2018 04:00 PM

No that's not John Delorean,it's actor Paul Richards.
This one's really humorous, with Paul narrating as well.

Mr70 12-23-2018 04:11 PM

See Paul Richards up close here at the 4:48 mark.

William, do you know if the outer brackets were attached to the bumper and painted, or black?
Thanks
Buddy

William 12-23-2018 10:22 PM

The outer brackets appear to have been dip-painted black, then assembled to the painted bumper. They are not the same as the chrome bumper outer brackets.

Awesome William! Thanks for confirming.
Buddy

Copo_Cartel 12-23-2018 11:38 PM

I believe it to be original and have one in my office... that bumper was removed from the car at some point when the car was painted and it was then painted at the same time to match the body color of the car

If I am not mistaken they were painted by the manufacturer due to the flexible paint.

I've asked this before, but never got an answer. Was the entire load rest painted blue, or was the adapter blue, while the hook remained gray. If that's the case, would the rivet be left unpainted?

Looks like an original.

Unreal 12-30-2018 09:09 PM

Thanks William. That was what I wanted to know. Now to find someone who can install a large rivet. Spring shop, maybe?

rlw68 12-31-2018 02:41 PM

Is this a semi tubular or solid rivet ?

Copo_Cartel 12-31-2018 03:34 PM

Ve3

NOS VE3 Hook

If your asking about the rivet by the VE3 stamp, that's a tubular, or semi tubular rivet.

Yes, that rivet :) , thanks. There are repops for both the VE3 part of the bracket and the entire thing. I have a load rest already that the bracket can be attached to with the rivet. Its stamped 'Camaro 1969" without the "UN" though. I assume this is still correct?

Copo_Cartel 01-01-2019 05:39 PM

You can tell a difference between the real VE3 hook and the repop

The real ones are stamped and the difference in the edges of a laser cut VS a die stamped part is quite noticeable.
