Day 2, where to get....

Had a bunch of buddies over this weekend. The topic turned to Day 2. So had to dig out some stuff for show and tell. Then topic turned to never seen before and these DD bars came up. Nobody in the group had seen them. So on to google we went.

Anybody have a source for the snubbers and hardware for these Drag Dimensions bars? The bars are nos but very old and lost the hardware sometime ago.

Thanks for any leads or dimensions/pics

Scott

Nice collection of day two items.
I'm sorry I can't help with the snubbers, but I do have a question about the Lakewood bars for GM coli spring cars.
I have a set, by any chance do you have the hardware or installation instructions for the bars?

Thanks
Bernhard

Check with Al Corporon aka AlsV8vair as his brother (I think) worked at the Drag Dimensions factory. You may be able to put the pieces together yourself. Here are a couple shots of my DD traction bars that were bought by the OO for his ‘70 sYc Nova.

Lakewood still makes the black snubbers # 20530, although not anatomically correct for the square bar Lakewood’s.

Here are a couple shots installed on a ‘70 Nova. Traction bar perches were modified (cut) by OO to fit this car.

Bernhard, Yes the coil spring bars do have the instructions and hardware. I can post up some pics when I get a chance.

Sam, Those are some great pictures! That helps a lot. There is not a lot of info on these bars. I am assuming the snubber has a slot in it for the retaining bar? It looks like it would be pretty easy to make, if you could find the rubber.

rszmjt, The square tube bars were never on a car. You can see the part number imbedded in the paint on one. Its pretty hard to read but the part number is 3996323 (GM a body axle snubber)

Yes as I recall the snubber has a slot to retain it with the cross bar piece.

A couple more photos (including shots of the great DD decals that I bought from Al Corporon, aka AlsV8vair) and a DD catalog for general info...

Those were cool bars Sam...and so were those McCreary's mounted on the back.

And this was a Nova you used to have??? More pics please.

Hey Graeme - very fond of this former mount (now in the Brothers collection). Schonye and company of Donahue, IA did the beautiful restoration. 1 of 7 delivered new at Canonsburg and OO bought all speed parts seen in photos (including his original McCrearys!) at my Papa's auto parts store in Indiana PA (McCrearys HQ). This one hit close to home!

Just wondering, why does that car have a big block cross member?

Good eye. This is the original cross member for this car. Yenko Deuces (4 speeds at least) all had them. I suppose it is something that Don wanted or perhaps Chevrolet COPO required it as the LT1 had never been put in a Nova before. Guru Marlin Spotts probably has better insight.

Bernhard, here are the pics of the Lakewood coil spring traction bars hardware and directions. Let me know if you need anything more. These Coil spring bars are the only set I have ever seen.

That Nova is sex on wheels!

NorCam 11-10-2018 12:21 PM

I'm with Scott on this one Sam.

That was a wicked little Deuce you had there. Hope to see the Brothers collection one day as they have some truly wicked cars. I've enjoyed many of Kevin O's videos on cars in the collection and recall this Deuce with a burnout in this particular episode. Thanks for the pictures Sam.

I want those wheels and tires. Oh yeah, and the track bars too. :burnout:

Sam: What engine mounting brackets to the crossmember were used for the Yenko Nova 4 speed cars, SBC or BBC? Don.

mockingbird812 11-12-2018 05:52 PM

Don, do you mean transmission mounting brackets? The engine mounts are SB mounts and I just don’t remember if any unique trans mount was used with my Deuce. This is a question for Schonye (resotorer and original owner-still- of a SY Deuce) or Marlin Spotts ( the keeper of the Deuce Registiry).

I was wondering the same thing. If it has a big block transmission cross member, does it also have the big block frame stands for the motor mounts?

Spooky 11-28-2018 11:22 PM

Thanks to all with the help and pics of the DD bars. Gave these a fresh coat of paint (even though they were nos, paint was crap), made some new rubber bumpers and made the new hardware!
