First I wanna say that I had an absolutely great time at the event. In the fear of leaving a name out I wanna thank everyone involved with putting this whole thing together. Perfect weather for racing and for hanging out with old and new friends. Hope everyone enjoys the photos and videos and I also hope more will add to this thread. I am sorry if I did not get a pic or video of your ride as I was back and forth and I know I missed several passes. Outside of hanging with friends; the absolute best part of the weekend was getting to see 2 legendary racers meet again after decades of losing touch with one another. Mr. Ken Barnhart and Dickie Ogles. For the ones that didn't realize what was happening; I am sorry but you missed out on some great stories and memories of the good ole days of racing.

Thanks for taking the time to take & post these.
This is a terrible time of year for me to take off to attend.
Much appreciated.

Now I feel bad. I had no idea that was Dickie Ogles. I saw the guy at the track on Friday with the "Scotty's" tshirt on and thought wow that brings back memories but never gave it a second thought. All through the 70's and 80's when I went to Indy he was my hero. John Force and all that circus might have sold a lot of tickets but for me it was guys like Dickie Ogles and the "Silly Bear" Camaro.

cook_dw 07-29-2018 04:16 PM

For the ones that do not know Mr. Ogles is the one in the blue shirt and bowtie chevy hat.

Darrell has some great pics! Thanks! Doug, this one is for you. Jason's car in foreground, YS 760 in background.

Darrell, Thanks for posting the video of the car! BBBenny P/S you should of came by and said HI!

cook_dw 07-29-2018 11:37 PM

Benny, I drooled over that car as I am an LS fan and that car was straight & clean out of the hole. Every time I happened to be near you were chatting with someone and I didn’t want to interrupt. I’ll be in Chicago in nov with the green 68 if you are planning for that show. I’ll make a point to stop and say hello. :beers:

thanks Darrell for posting the pictures and videos, It was great that Dickey and Mr.Barnhart got together after so many years and its all because of this great event and the 5 special guys that put it all together. please don't mistake me for Dickie Ogles (I had on the Scotty's t shirt) He was one of the best drag racers in the country and certainly the best in our area . Me on the other hand loved it but was average at best. I had a great time and am looking forward to next year already!

Chatting?? Its just the Professor holding court Darrell. Its like that most of the time when I am with him or around him. Tuff to pin him down especially when he is doing an autograph session. He is the man!

Thanks for the great videos!

hurstL78 07-30-2018 01:00 PM

Darrell,
Thanks for sharing your pix. I was downhearted for not really getting to take any myself. Also, I got to take a good hard look at your car Saturday afternoon. All I can say is, “wow!” I loved it! Beautiful piece of history! Let alone the sentimental aspect of it. Hopefully we can catch up again soon.

cook_dw 07-30-2018 01:12 PM

Thanks Van. Your Chevelle is just as special to you as Dad's car is to me. Beautiful car buddy.

I hear Mr. Cumby, Mr. McClurg and Mr. Hanson took AWAY better photos. Not sure who's is who's but they are on the SCR facebook page. Since I don't fb maybe someone will link them or post them here or in another thread. Would like to see all the goings on that happened. :beers:

Made it home safe and sound from SCR 21.Had a great time visiting with everyone Thursday night. The BBQ was flying and so were the stories!

Friday was a blast. My best pass was a 12.91 @ 108 mph. Benny was a great crew chief and helped me get the starting line procedures down pat. He's a good man! Just as i was getting the hang of the car, the rear end let go! I've seen cars break and the track and now I know the feeling..lol. Oh well, all part of the experience.

Spent Saturday pushing the car around from the trailer to the museum. Thanks for everyone that helped push!

Thanks to Tom, Doug, Jamie, and Cumby for another great event. I'll be back next year with a beefed up rear end!

Jason, let me know if you need any help with that. Tom's Differentials had special heat treated 17-10 gears once. I don't know if they still have them or not. It's been a few years since I got any from them. Looks like it still had the old bronze washers in it. The steel washers are stronger. You are going to need a set of springs and plates too. If you want to take it out and send it to me I can fix it and send it back. Did you inspect the ring & pinion gears?

Can anyone shed any light on this '69 Chevelle. Cool car.

It belongs to the daughter of the guy who owns the SS convertible next to it. He gave it to her as a surprise 16th birthday gift. It was a 6 cylinder Powerglide car and a few weeks ago they put a 454 with a TH350 in it.

Damien 07-31-2018 02:25 AM

Thanks Freddie. Nice looking post sedan.
