----I bought a stage 1 Rivvy new. Black metallic with a white gut. Pretty car if you like boat tails. Sort of thought at the time that I ought to grow up a bit. I was wrong! Sold it to a friend and bought a 69 435 Corvette...….Bill S

Saw one in my life time in the late 70s. A 70 Silver Riv. Stage 1 in Rye NY.

Mr70 07-23-2018 04:53 PM

They were all over the south side of Chicago back then.

Canuck 07-23-2018 06:46 PM

Wasn't the Riv the car of choice for the up and coming mobster? With no disrespect!

My father in law has a Metallic brown 73 Riv that he tows his 24" checkmate to the river on weekends. Those 455's have tons of torque!

I've heard somewhere that only around 200 Stage 1 Rivieras were built. Anyone know a different number?

In 1973 the Stage 1 option was $139. I assume it was the same for 1974

The Stage I cars.......are fast, for big boats.

Lynn 07-24-2018 03:24 AM

I have to admit. I worked at a Buick dealership in the 70's. I saw plenty of Stage I Buicks, but don't ever remember seeing a 1973 Stage I Riv. Probably some that came through, but I don't remember seeing one.

marxjunk 07-24-2018 12:14 PM

unless you saw the grille emb..you wouldnt know...if i remember right, its the only one on the car...

L78steve 07-24-2018 12:30 PM

If I remember correctly in 70 the emblems were on the fenders. They were GS Stage 1 Riv's.

No Stage 1 in 1970. Only 73 and 74.

In '84-85 I bought a 1970 GS Riv. $700, 50,--- mi. Really nice. Raced a 308 Ferrari from a dead stop on Beach blvd. Had him off the start, but he pulled away no problem...car was way too heavy. But, I only paid about 14 cents a pound for my car, and it was like new.
