15x4 Rocket wheel

I got a single 15x4 Rocket wheel in the trunk of a long stored 68 Camaro race car. In my decades of buying old wheels, I have never seen one. This has the normal chrome issues that a Cragar would have. When were these discontinued and does anyone have a single they would part with ? I asked the seller what happened to the other and he said we threw the other one away since we were using this one as a spare.:no::no:

I'll get some pictures to post.
Thanks !
Dave

Hi Dave
I have seen them come up on ebay from time to time.

MailOrderMotion 07-06-2018 05:33 PM

I know that they still make a 15x4 in the "Fuel" series. I checked completed auctions and didn't see anything. Do you recall what they were actually selling for ?

Have you tried this company?

If I remember correctly the wheels were the same as a Cragar SS wheel in price based on condition.

Good luck in your search.

I would say yours are early as there is no bead locks.

Good point. Any idea when bead locks started ?

Dave

I would guess 67/68 when radial tires started to hit the market.

I had many sets of 15x4 Cragar.. Don't remember bead locks. Those Rockets wheels are early to mid 70's.

A guy named Shawn Gilliam on facebook had one mint 15x4 Rocket wheel and was looking for another.

Bernhard 07-07-2018 05:39 PM

The car manufactures started to introduce bead locks around 67/68 even mid production years. VW stared mid production in 1967. I wonder who was the first of the big three to introduce bead locks?
I would be surprised if the aftermarket did not follow suite as mag wheels and radial tires were a big selling point.
I have some later 15 x 4 Cragar SS rims and they have them but they are not pronounced like some other wheels that I have seen.

Can you guys help me with some pics of bead locks? Not sure I am following what you are referring to.
