Rusty but Running/Driving #s '70 Chevelle SS396 Convertible
 

Pretty sure this is the same car that was on an Ohio Craigslist last year for $15k. Anyone know for sure?

Insane money, just my opinion. Last year, when the car was on craigslist, I was going to drive out to OH to make a deal but we had a high profile visitor coming to my workplace and I was on the hook to plan the event...talk about the wrong time! The seller was very nice and basically told me not to waste my time driving out unless I was able to leave right away, as he'd already had like 15 calls by the time I phoned him at 7:30 that morning.

Anyway, this was a no-sale last time around at $37k, back up with bidding around $30k so far.

Isn't a nice restored #s '70 396 convertible like $80-100k these days?

Well this is different. The seller has gone ahead and replaced a bunch of sheetmetal on this one and is selling as a rust-free car. I'd want to look closely at the quality of work, but boy, is that a lot of effort for a flip....

Ad says: "There is nothing to hide behind a 25 year old paint job."

Suppose there might be something to hide behind a 25 day old paint job?

At this point it would probably be better to just go ahead and paint it.

Except... my guess is there is a reason it is flat and not glossy. Flat hides a multitude of sins.

This one has been relisted...I'm still intrigued by all the work that has gone into it.

He may find all of his new sheet metal and the labor installing it was free. He should have rolled it the first time around IMO.

Hard to overlook the contradictory descriptions all in the same ad:
"Barn Find Survivor", "This is a true piece of automotive history."
Then
"has new top with glass back windoe,new interior,all new sheetmetal including one piece trunk pan and new door shells."

"Barn Find Survivor" = it survived its time in the barn
" This is a true piece of automotive history" - as is every other automobile ever produced.

15K for that car pre metal work was a steal and a half.

I know, still regret not going out there and buying it but we had TRUMP coming that week and I couldn’t get away.

Tony, the car did 37500 on ebay no sale prior to the metal work?? Correct?

Chuck I believe something close to that, but don’t remember the exact number.

Heres the time line:

2017 - on Ohio craiglist for $15,000
June 10, 2018 - Ebay Ad by gtojohn car is same as found on craigslist ends at $37,800 with 73 bids reserve not met
June 2018 - On Kansas City Craigslist for $50,000 as found
June 26, 2018 - same Ebay ad by gtojohn car gets bid to $30,533 with 24 bids reserve not met
Sept 2, 2018 - Ebay ad now shows new sheet metal and car gets bid up to $46,600 with 117 bids and reserve not met.
Oct 8, 2018 Ebay add back up and car gets bid to $35,389 with 35 bids and reserve not met.
March 21, 2019 -listed again with reserve currently in progress

I think the KC craiglist add looking for one willing to pay $100K is the same guy

I think his ship has sailed... Could have more than doubled his money without touching it but got greedy. The more times it runs on ebay the less interest it will get IMO.

For all the repop sheetmetal that's on the car, I'm surprised the body fit looks as good as it does.

"This car is a SURVIVOR car that has had a new Top,Interior,and sheet metal installed."

"Survivor" ain't what it used to be.

Survivor...wow...no kidding Rainer.

I have to give credit to someone else, because I did not say it first, but for some people, "survivor" simply means it still exists and did not end up in the crusher. :)
