Hi , Patrick the guy who found the Yenko sold Ralley Green Nova , Posted a video of a 69 Ralley Green RS Z/28 with 19,000 miles on facebook ...
Anyone know this car ? |

Just watching the video, there are a few things that jump out at me. Repop rt ft fender? (it looks Chinese dipping) and cowl tag doesn't look right to me. I may be wrong though.....

I'll also agree with the whole "Barn Find" thing.....although some of the "discovered" cars were/are hiding in plain sight. Sometimes the original identity has been disguised with a color change or even a model change. '67 Z/28s that had been badged as SS', Yenkos stripped of their born-with features, stock appearing cars that had significant race history and then were detuned/repainted and sold; thanks to some clever sleuthing some important cars really HAVE been discovered.

Cowl tag looks okay, not that it means all that much on a Van Nuys car. I'm not 100% convinced of an original paint claim. I see the white stripe paint under the cowl which is correct and rarely done on a restoration but the rear stripe isn't correct and I believe the spoilers were added. This early of a build I believe should still be a short spoiler, and I don't see the corner support brackets on the front spoiler. Decal in the door jamb is gone.
Still doesn't take anything away from the car, very cool, I like it. |
Couldn't agree more on the term "barn finds" having been overused and completely exhausted. Jerry Heasley writes for MCR and I think he uses that phrase on every single car that is discovered now days
And what's with the staged video's that keep being made with every garage door that opens these days. It's like everyone wants to be part of a television gig on the History Channel. No VIN decal until August 69, and even the first few in August may not have them. So, and early car would not have received the decal. Doors didn't even get the two locating ribs for the decal until June or so. Agree with others, there is nothing of significance to this car being "found". The "seized" aspect does nothing for value. |
I was going to mention it's too early to have had a blue VIN label in the door also,but figured PGN would accuse me of bashing the car.

There is a '70 Chevelle, Astro blue, black stripes, and a '69 Z/28, Daytona yellow within 1 mile of my house. I have only seen the rears of both of them because as far as I know, neither has moved for the 14 years I have lived in this neighborhood. Maybe I can discover them!
I have spoken to the owner of the Z/28 and he is doing the "I would sell it if the price is right, but you know what they are worth at Barrett Jackson" thing, and I dropped a nice note in the Chevelle's mailbox - no response. |

Yeah, Cook sent me a PM and explained the original paint deal. It all makes me wish I had Wonder Woman's magic lasso to put around guys like this so that you could get the truth out of them. :D

I wanted to clear the air if you will about Johnny and this car and why I went back and deleted my previous post. I had the opportunity to talk with him again as I have many times before over the weekend at SCR. He did tell me it was original paint. BUT, what I didn't hear or was mistaken was the fact that it had been repainted once. We had a lenghty conversation about the car. I now know the FULL story and how Johnny came to own it. Johnny is a good man and I just wanted to man up and say I was wrong.
I also talked with Patrick as well. Although he and I agree to disagree; he is doing the hobby good by bringing these cars that most have not seen or do not know anything about them out in the world of social media. We all have different personalities and we all have different senses of humor. The best thing we all can do is realize these are just cars and the people behind them are the real story and the friendships that made during the process. Nothing more needs to be said. |
