'66 Straight Axle Nova
This one is very tasty...makes me miss the one in my avatar. Although I have to say my car was way scarier with the 427 than this one looks to be.
I think the way the owner did this car is exactly the right approach...make it look as stock as possible except for the obvious gasser style stuff. Beautiful build. Looks like it's missing the break line trim at the base of the sail panel to separate the two-tone, which would be an easy add. The Sunpro gauges need to go in the trash too...but again...easy fix. neat
but arent gassers about over? i see people dumping them all over.... |
I hope not. I'm about to start building one myself.

They're still popular up here, and holding their own.

Love it Scuncio. Gassers will never be over for some.

They aren't exactly high dollar cars, but would think they will always be popular and live on forever. I'm still thinking of building one too.

Scuncio,
Do you have any pics of yours that you can share? |
If you insist...paint is from 1972....

This is the car I most regret selling, ever.
|
Was it a Michigan car? if so, I'm pretty sure it belonged to a good friend of mine.
The name Jim Schrio ring a bell? |
is that silver or silver blue?
|
I bought it from a guy who essentially flipped it to me. I can't remember his name but I don't think it was Jim...he lived over in Jackson. I would love to hear more about it - never was able to dig up any owner history on the car while I owned it.

It was silver, originally Marina Blue.

I just got off the phone with Jim and it is his old car, he sold it around 78-79
He said it popped up a few years ago and a guy named Dave Osborne was selling it, he won it in a storage auction and paid $4000 for it and was then selling it for $12,000 Jim said it was untouched from the time he sold it and looked exactly the same right down to the little fuzzy head thing that was on the dashboard when he sold it. I remember that thing absolutely terrorizing the neighborhood when I was a kid, a true bad ass car. |
Wow, I am amazed. I bought the car from a guy who had gotten it running but very poorly. I rebuilt the carb, recovered the seats, fixed a couple floor braces that were rotted, installed an exhaust and fixed the headers, went through the brakes and steering, etc...it was a mess when I got it. Ran awesome for the short time I had it on the road, just a super fun car. I had to sell when we moved back to the city and lost my enormous pole barn. I had every intention of keeping it.
Was your buddy the guy who built the car originally? |
I think I paid $9500 for it, plus a set of wheels.
|
Yeah, he mentioned the paint falling off and some corrosion but besides the deterioration no other changes were made from the time that he owned it.
He bought the car completely done, I'm going to see him Saturday and I'll get some more info on it, he was busy when I talked to him. Actually, if you are a Pontiac guy you may know him as Geejo from Next Generation Pontiac parts, he has the Pontiac Ranch in Romeo. |
Pretty sure I've met the owner of Pontiac Ranch...small world for sure. Here was the car in its full nastiness the day I brought it home.

Thanks for posting the original eBay Nova. This car reminds me of my first car at age 16. I bought a 1966 Nova in the same color combination in the same town the this car is for sale. It was always parked in the Moose Lodge parking lot most days. A friend who was old enough to enter went in for me and offered the owner $400. It took some negotiating and perhaps a few more adult beverages, but it then became my first car. It was an original 283 4 barrell car. Unfortunately it was a rust bucket and I couldn’t do body work. I learned how to turn wrenches on that thing. I am not sure what the odds are that the same color combination in the same town all these years later is, but it sure does make me want to pursue this one. Thanks for letting me relive some old memories.
Thanks for posting, Marty |
Nice! I always loved that color combo.

Gasser cars are still going strong here in my area too. I like my 55 Nomad gasser more than anything that I have built before. Scuncio (Tony) built the 427 that I have in it. Runs and pulls great! Although if the right offer came, I would sell it, as I found another 45 acres that I want to buy and build on.

Glad to help... ;-)
are you still in FL or back in MI? Quote:

Got back here last Sunday. Hated to leave down there.
|
This '66 was a no-sale at $18,700...I'm sure the seller has way more into it.
