69 Yenko Camaro - Mecum Houston

https://www.mecum.com/lots/HA0418-32...-yenko-camaro/

Car sold for $95k. Nice car but being a rebody held it down.

scuncio 04-09-2018 02:08 AM

Rebody or not, someone took a bath on that car. I would love to own it for that kinda money.

I saw this when I was zooming through what I had recorded. I wondered why it went so cheap.

Looks like a nice car though.

nice to see "car has been rebodied" right there in the description. Good on Mecum!:)

WILMASBOYL78 04-09-2018 06:41 PM

I don't understand..??

Just saw this and I must admit...I don't understand. :hmmm:

I was under the impression re-bodies are not a good thing..especially on a rare COPO car. I'm also not sure in this case how much of the car is still the original...just the cowl??

Why would someone want to spend that much money for something that is re-bodied??

Anyway, it looks like a beautiful car...but, I still don't understand??

Ive said this before, and I know its not a popular view, but
I would rather have a "Reproduction" body (or rebody) and original drivetrain than a 454 made to look like a 427 (reproduction if you will) non original motor in a original body car. Within certain circumstances anyway.

I mean if you replace 90% of a car with new metal and the motor non original, other than the VIN how is that the same car?

Of course, I say that and a while back I found my original high school car in a junkyard:

and I went ahead and put 20k in new metal in a 307 car. But it was the first car I kissed a girl in and first car that I owned and bought myself, at 16.

Basically the tulips and the rear package tray are the only original parts on the car.

Conflicted I am.... LoL :)

Good for you Rich, is there a thread out there about your Camaro? I love a good story of long lost rides getting a new life.

Not the full one, but I will once it is done.

I really don’t understand.....rebody and “period correct” engine and trans. What is real “Yenko” here? The VIN? Do hidden VINs match VIN plate? Data plate real/original to this body or transplanted when VIN tag was swapped? I didn’t see any mention of what rear is under there......

big gear head 04-11-2018 02:24 AM

Was that a Yenko installed shifter?

I totally get this. As Jerry Seinfeld says, "You can't drive your money." But you can rebuild your high school car and have fun driving it. Can't put a price on that.

Yes, tge Hurst Shifter was installed by Yenko in most automatic Camaros and Chevelles.

Not slammin your decision, but I would have had to have done more than kissed her.... or she would have to still be in my life. Just sayin.

Seriously though, if I found my 57 Chevy from high school, I would probably do the same thing. Two Ten model, two door sedan, 283 PG car. Nothing special.

Lets just say that my wife said the only part on the car she insisted that I replace was the back seat. She's heard the stories.

(which only become more grandiose over time :) )
