Water pump (Alum.) options for 396

Looking for what is out there (vintage) that would be a form/fit replacement for my stock
-811 water pump for my '69 Chevelle L78.

Thanks

I think that is a short pump, I would assume he needs a long pump.

I am not sure the one listed in the sYc ad (2nd one below) nor this one immediately below, that I found on fleabay recently, gives me the attachment points for the alternator let alone long vs short pump. Third one below is on my Chevelle now. What do you guys think?

Edit: added photo of my stock pump hanging off the front of the engine - you can see that the two aluminum pumps shown below do not have the bolt holes to accommodate the alternator.

I've got a Weiand long pump on my 427. I don't know about period correct, but it works.

STEWART makes a good pump- and I recommend their thermostat too!

The picture is deceiving. The ones I've used have a cast aluminum finish. If your pulley doesn't hide the logo, you can easily sand it off. Wouldn't take much to seal the deal- but I understand the value in a truly authentic casting.

I too am contemplating putting an aluminum "L88" water pump on my big block chevelle.
You can make 2 spacers to convert the short pump into a Long one but then you may still have issues with the alternator mounting points

big gear head 03-14-2018 11:50 AM

Mine is made just like the cast iron pump, with all of the mounting holes in the correct locations. If you painted it you wouldn't be able to tell it was aluminum.

Freddie, aka Biggearhead, steered me to something that should work. This is an early version of a Weiand hipo aluminum water pump model 8243 which debuted in the early 70’s. Thank you sir!

big gear head 03-14-2018 10:30 PM

Mine is a 8242. It's not the Team G, but they look just the same except for the number. I hope this one works out for you.
