LS6 Chevelle value
10 Attachment(s)
I owned this car about 17 years ago. Purchased it from Al Young along with the actual 67 Pace car. Current owner has passed away and widow is selling it. She has been firm at 90K and the person that is helping her asked my opinion. I don't think it is a 90K car. Factory black car. Auto, two build sheets. Repainted, new seat covers and carpets, flowmaster mufflers etc. The main negative is Al's mechanic offered to do a hi performance rebuild for him. When Al went to check on the engine it had been decked. Real car, real build sheets, good color but auto and decked block. Paint is supposed to be very nice. Pics give you a good idea. Opinions ?

----Obviously quite a bit incorrect, some expensive and some not, and then that lack of #s. Just between the lack of smog and incorrect exhaust approximately $4,000 uninstalled if a guy doesn't do his own work. Charley, I put this car at around 70ish to get it sold, maybe a bit above. The paper and the color might push it over the 70 figure.......Bill S

That's a Volo driver,all day long.
If she wasn't firm on that price, she could sell it. |

70 sounds fair. Did anybody try to bring out the deck stamp?
no
I tried it with my DZ 302 but they must have decked it more than the stamping-deep, which I guess is no surprise as most of the DZ stamps I've seen don't look that deeply pressed into the block. I can refer someone to where I got the acid if needed; it's a forensic lab that sells mainly to law enforcement but also to the public and the cost is minimal.
I don't think the widow is up to jumping thru those kind of hoops and I doubt the friend that is helping is up to it either.
When no one steps up to buy it at her "$90K firm" I am sure she will realize that her asking price is too high. Maybe then she will entertain lower, more realistic offers.
How did she decide on that $90K price? |
Id say the same its between a 65k to 70k car being a driver automatic with the stamp gone. If she gets realistic on the price Id be a buyer looks like a fun car to go burn the tires off in.

Sold new at Ed Fanning in Aurora, IL.....my hometown Chevrolet dealership.
Not a knowledgeable Chevelle guy like others that have posted on here, but as soon as I read Charley's intro paragraph I was thinking $70k
Do ls^s have vin numbers down by the oil filter?
No vin is on the pad. I think its worth around 65K
I think I told him I thought between 60-70K and it seems most of you feel the same. It is still a black LS6 with two build sheets. I don't think it has ever been wrecked.
From Wisconsin by chance?
Dan Young Chevrolet was in Indy. Car was sold new in Ill. Car is now in Ca.
This is a tuff one depending on how you look at it. Some good history back a ways. If Al says that the block was decked and Charlie can verify that it did have the original one when it was sold to Al then........? But when the numbers are gone they are gone.
I've been looking for an LS6 for about 4 years but all I see are cars from dealers that are worked over. I loaded up my pickup and my dad in 1996 and drove from Wiscinsin to New Jersey to buy an LS6. Most awesome car ever!!! Sold the car in 2000 to buy my grandparents house, then it got flipped around 3 to 4 times before ending up in Massachusetts to a member of Team Chevelle. Been calling him on his land line phone with no luck of an answer. Wow... Sorry. So what I'm trying to say is that if you are really after a true LS6 with good bones that you can drive, this is that car. Yes, over priced but find another like it for sale. Some of us use our love of the cars before our education in economics. If she can advertise the car right, she may have to drop 5 or so but I do think she can come close. There is a lot of value in a car that hasn't been through the dealer prep and story stage......that to me just ruins these cars. Again sorry for the rant. Can you tell I really want that car back. |
Oldss,,, Its nice of you to say all that, but we were asked for a value with known parameters. Sometimes you have to be realistic and it sounds like this is that time. Looking at the posts after mine, its possible that I was even being too kind by a bit. I hope not, but the guys on this board have a bunch of history!......Bill S

A documented LS6 that just needs a couple weekends of some TLC for $65k? Her asking price is not totally out of bounds. I think $75-$80 is what it would bring. Real LS6 Chevelle's in good color combinations are very hard to find. Especially the ones that you can drive and have fun with like this car.
This is one of my favorite color combos. Is it all original sheet metal? Is car being advertised anywhere? I may be interested!
I believe it is all orig. sheetmetal. Don't think it is advertized.
Kool car, I remember when Charley had it listed on eBay, way back when.
I would say asking price should be 65K. Let people interested set the price after looking it over better. The high upfront price just scares people away and with the issues listed here, that might even be a bit high.
I believe Charlie with 60-70 should do it. If she doesn't have to sell, put the price low and she what shakes out of the trees. |
I was told awhile ago she will probably accept 75K.
Charlie, if she will take 75K. Go pick it up. These real cars are undervalued!
Neg side level of restoration, missing parts, decked block and auto. The positive Black, 410 and solid original car. With all that said, 65k good deal, 70k is all the money.
This car has never been restored correct?
Correct but repainted, engine rebuilt etc. I already owned this one years ago and have one with low miles so I don't need it. I'm just trying to assist a widow. If any of us died and left our wives to deal with this I would hope someone would help our wives as well.
Engine rebuilt and I thought interior replacement, such as carpet and possibly seat covers????
Yes. I think I said that stuff in earlier posts.
In spite of the issues this car has a lot going for it. A real LS6 with two build sheets, a known history, great colors and an automatic with no vinyl top to detract from those great body lines. It would be a great driver quality purchase at 65k.
Yes, we would all want our wives or children treated fairly!! Many times all our toys and collections just end up being a lot of extra work for our families when we go. Would she be against becoming a member and listing her car in the classifieds here? Might just help to get the word out. I think there is already some interest.
If someone is interested in buying it they can contact me and I will put them in touch with the guy that is helping her.
My initial gut was $75K, but looking at the car again I agree with the others in the $65 - $70K range.
No mention of mileage on motor or on car itself? Receipts for engine work / paint?? Looks nice, but a real one with all the paperwork and verifiable numbers probably can be had for close to the same number as on this one I would think.
I just purchased a LS6 with 14K miles all original excluding tires, battery, two tailpipes and one muffler. Automatic ,cloth bench with 3:31 with two built sheets with one still tucked under passengers side front seat. window sticker, pop, order sheet and dealer invoice. With that said I paid almost double what she's asking so, in my opinion a black on black no hit not rotted original sheet metal car with docs. that's never been taken apart for a restoration even if it is a replacement block or a decked block with 4:10 is a good buy at 75K regardless of the automatic which as I get older I prefer over a 4 speed especially if it has the original Cy in it. Just my two cents.

"If any of us died and left our wives to deal with this I would hope someone would help our wives as well."
My wife is always reminding me what she will do with the cars when I am gone, thats why I am enlisting the kids. |
