Very cool Car Collection/Museum in Iowa-Check it out!

I was fortunate to be invited to visit a car collection in Iowa this past Friday and Saturday. We were able to take a Cessna Citation charter to see this collection. All I can say is I am blessed...with great friends.
Friday we had a private tour of the museum/collection (Okoboji Classic Cars) and Saturday we did garage tours and then hung out and talked to folks at the collection again, before flying back to Scottsdale. The collection in Iowa is owned by Toby Shine and is amazing. Not only is there a car collection, but there is a full service restoration shop as well. The restoration of the barn find Cadillac that Toby brings to Pavilions was done by his shop.(Picture courtesy of Rick E. !) He has a very modern paint facility on site, too. There is also a dyno on site to sort out the cars after they've been restored |

An article written by a local paper says it way better than I can...so I am reposting their words :) The article was written when the construction was still taking place

The fact that Toby recreated the Spencer area from his childhood is cool, but the Buick dealership shown in his recreation inside the museum-is still there in Spencer and still operational. GM is pressuring the location to update the dealership-but they are refusing to do so...
Bob Anderson, Rich Rendino, Chris Picciano and I were lucky enough to get a private tour of the collection on Friday. Here are the pictures...which DON'T do the collection justice....Bob is shown in the Corvette below in the photos By the way, the murals encompass the entire facility-and are worth the trip alone! |

There are all sorts of cars in the collection, some race cars, some modern cars and tons of memorabilia everywhere you look.

The recreation of the downtown is just amazing, down to the details of the correct era suits in the tailors shop (actually bought there by one of Toby's current employees who worked at the tailors shop as a kid!). There are so many cool details-it's mind blowing!

Okay some of the garage tours that we went on, where the local car guys...all friends of Toby's and folks he grew up with...opened their garages for us to take a look see!
Here's the first garage...lots to look at! Owner is a hoot!:cool2: :worship: The pics are from my cell phone |

The third garage we visited. The red 409 car was owned by Toby at one time...and the current owner (and Toby's friend) wanted it BAD...and told Toby so. Toby told him that sorry, the car was sold (which it was...).
Fast forward to a car show in Spencer on Father's Day weekend, where the car showed up and was parked right across the way from where Toby's friend was parked. Toby's friend told Toby that he needed to find out who the owner was so he could buy it, so Toby walked up to his friends son...who promptly handed the keys to the car.....to his dad. The son had bought the car for his dad!! Way :cool2: stuff for sure.... |

Some of the town...the folks were very hospitable and the food was GOOD!
The change in temperature was pretty dramatic. It was 70 degrees when we left Scottsdale at 6:30am on Friday...and 0 degrees when we landed in Spencer  It even snowed about 2-3 inches on Saturday morning so we got to experience that as well! |

Here's some shots of when we first landed in Spencer...and then some on the hangar when we were getting ready to leave. Also a few on the take off and the quick ascent to our cruising altitude. Chris got to be co-pilot on the way home :cool2:
On the trip to Iowa, we stayed at about 37,000 feet with a 152mph tail wind at one point the indicated ground speed was close to 661 mph...and we made the trip in two hours. One the way back, the trip took about 3 hours. We stayed pretty consistently at 41,000 feet and the speed varied from 350 to 400 mph as shown on the monitors...which were cool as heck!:cool2: |
