'66 L79 Acadian Canso...wow
I believe this car was purchased from the original owner pretty recently...at a low price...and the subsequent owner cleaned it up for sale. Really tempting car, can't be too many of these out there in this condition.
Needs a big old Pedestal tach strapped to the column, and SW gauges under the dash. Link to 1966 Acadian Canso L79 https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/2YoAA...lS/s-l1600.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/48AAA...l1/s-l1600.jpg |
I had the opportunity to check out this beauty recently. I picked up a Beaumont front end for Albert Galdi and the owner took me to see this car:-)
I bought some hub caps that Casey Marks bought from me instantly for his creations. I think the current owner is asking 88K CAD 71K USD. By memory he said it has been painted. The pictures with the original owner are available. Ryan |
Current owner is asking about $50k US

Yup, I checked my picture of the add from Nov and 59 CAD 88 must be my imagination:-)

I had some long discussions with a previous owner of this car. It's believed the front fenders were replaced at some point, because there were no V/8 emblems on either side. These emblems are now on the car.
The car has been cleaned up for it's current sale. I guess they thought the alternator bracket was wrong, as it's been incorrectly changed out to the U.S. style. I've posted a pic below of the engine before cleanup showing the unique (and rare) Canadian alternator bracket that was used on some, but not all, 1966 Canadian L79 Chevy IIs and Acadians. Sad that people would just replace things on an original car with little or no knowledge of what they're doing. This is one of two Acadian L79 Sport Coupes known to still exist. The Sandalwood Tan Victoria B.C. car restored about 10 years ago by Bill Wertheim is the other. It's unfortunate that Acadians don't get the 'love' that equivalent Chevy IIs get. An L79 Nova Sport Coupe that is one of two in existence, fully documented, numbers matching and almost entirely original wouldn't be on eBay for 2 years! Bob |
Going by memory.......I think only 28 1966 Canso L-79 sold new in Canada. Beautiful, desireable and rare.

Rare but not as desirable as a Chevy2 L79 in my opinion.

I always preffered the Acadian Cansos over the Chevy 11. And that goes back right to 1966

I bought a 66 Acadian Canso off the back lot when I was working for a GM dealership in Winnipeg at the age of 18. I spent many of my paychecks buying NOS parts through the dealership in 1983 and had just finished the body off in primer when a neighbor saw the car and asked if I'd sell it? He kept offering more money until the offer was one I couldn't say no to.
Love these cars and this white one is pretty cool. :) |

This Acadian is a fairly rare bird, even up here in Canada but is way over priced in my opinion. It will never bring the same $$$ as a Chevy. The big $$$ has always been in the USA and most Americans don't really know much about the Beaumont's or Acadian models thus they stay clear of paying up. There recently was a beautiful Butter Nut Yellow 1966 Chevy 11 sell at the Mecuum Action n Florida for $65K fully restored with paperwork. As Bob previously mentioned, exterior trim pieces are super rare and unless you been stock pilling parts over the years, these cars are extremely difficult to restore. I know of a guy here in Manitoba who has travelled all over Canada for parts. Chevrolet Nova or Chevelle is the way to go. They will always bring strong money for the right car. This particular car is priced $20-$25K to high.

Ryan,
Ryan, you are correct about this 1966 Acadian VIN 671637004439 being painted. I called the seller (second owner) and he was nice enough to discuss the complete history of this car. Here are some points that he brought up during our conversation that he felt I needed to be aware of. 1. The complete car had been painted by the original owner. The reason was due to the fenders being bad on the top next to the hinges. The fenders had been removed and repaired or replaced. Also the right rear quarter has had some body work done to it. The seller indicated that you could see the sanding marks in the paint from the paint/body job. 2. The engine had been removed and rebuilt by the original owner due to a loss in oil pressure. He also told me that he use to wrench on this car when it was still owned by the original owner and that is how he ended up with the car. I have no idea how it can be advertised as being "unrestored". Paul |
