1969 Z/28 r/s JL8

Trying to get a value for a real 69 JL8 car , real z/28 matching numbers , daytona yellow , yellow houndstooth . real JL8 car , with a gm crossram and fiberglass hood . The car is completley disassembled , has gm quarters , fenders and trunk lid . the rest of the body is very solid . the car is very complete . also have gm door and roof rail weatherstrip and many other gm parts . No paper work , car has been in a private collection fo 30 plus years .

76 B tag?

camaromb 01-10-2018 01:50 PM

Sounds like the Dale Chevrolet car!

young 01-10-2018 01:55 PM

I know the car well. Due to the $4600+ sticker it sat at Dale unsold until 1970. Knocked around here for about 10 years; a good bud ended up with it and did much of the work on it. He wanted to sell, no paperwork. I was able to get ownership history on it back to new and spoke to all the owners. No one had any docs so I passed. Ed C's BIL Ray ended up with it. I gave him the title search docs so those should be with the car. Hard to believe that was 38 years ago.

It's real and was one of the most interesting '69 Z/28s I have seen.

Sounds like a really great car with good history of ownership and some killer options. Just my opinion on a value but it's gotta be in the 80K-85K range disassembled (but complete), and likely north of 130K or more fully assembled. I guess it really depends on how original the car is versus what's been completely restored when it's all back together?

Does it need a frame off with the panels you mentioned needing replaced, or is it partially done with only paint and finishing remaining to be done on the panels, or can a lot of it be saved as original? Need to see current pics to really put a fair value on it but it sounds like a winner. The rare parts such as the GM Crossram and JL8 are worth 35K+ alone.

sheet metal is already on it . just needs a cosmetic restoration .

olredalert 01-10-2018 02:54 PM

----It seems to me that a guy I used to know (cant remember his name) from the old days at Classic Motors had this car pre-restoration for about a year and then flipped it. This would have been sometime on either side of 1980. I especially remember the fiberglass hood as I had never heard of that back then!......Bill S

Sent you a PM. More to the story. Contact me if you are serious about it.

Great picture. Is that really a picture of the car being discussed on the lot of Dale Chevrolet or later in it's life? That is quite a rare Z28.

William 01-10-2018 03:17 PM

The photo is from a show at WI State Fair Park, maybe 1978 or so. First time I saw it [1979] the original black vinyl top was still on it. Bud Jack removed it when he painted it.

Dale also had an orange JL8 Z/28 with orange houndstooth. Had style trim but not an RS. I briefly owned it late '70s. Everyone around here knew it because it had 8" Corvette wheels painted white. Sold it to a guy from FL; delivered it to his in-laws in the Chicago area.

I owned another orange/orange Z/28 from Dale 1975-1977. Late production [09C] X77 car.

Bears repeating: Dale Chevrolet in Waukesha WI was some hi-performance dealership back in the day. IMHO, right up there with Nickey, Scuncio, Berger. L72 & ZL1 COPOs, JL8 Z/28s, Corvettes, 427 conversions, house race cars. A Dale COPO is on the docket at Mecum FL this month.

I agree,I came across a few Dale Chevrolet dealership items in the past.
I tried to buy the entire lot,but the seller was blown away by how much he was offered to end the auction & sell outright....He did. :(
I think I know who bought them though, and it made sense.

Why no black top in the dealer pic?

Xplantdad 01-10-2018 06:59 PM

Great info, William!

young 01-11-2018 01:24 AM

What are you speaking of about being made up ?

Charley Lillard 01-11-2018 01:39 AM

I think Bill is confusing your car with the fake tagged black one in another thread.

My apologies. Yes I did mix up your car with the Black car. Sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused anyone. I am not that type of person, bad rapping someones car. My brother had a 1969 Yellow / Yellow / Houndstooth / Black hat R/S - S/S 396 / 325 TH-400 Factory A/C Coupe back in 1971. A very loaded, rare car, even back in the day. Sold new out of Celozzie / Eddelson in Elmhurst Illinois
