Loaded '68 RS/SS

I know we've talked about this one before, but I can't find the old post. My neighbor is interested in this car - I've told him it's priced about 10k high since the original paint doesn't sound salvageable based on the seller's description.

What do you guys/gals think it's worth needing a repaint? Just looking for some informed opinions. Thanks!

This car was on craigslist two days ago, and if I’m not mistaken, the asking price was below $30k... just as you estimated. I remember thinking, this car is finally getting close to selling. I bet he’s just fishing at this price because he threw it on Ebay.

Great car thou with those options...if it was a 67 or 69 price would be ok to put a few $$$ into but 68,s just dont get the love they deserve.

Are they the wrong hood louvers on that car? They look to be for a 1967 Camaro.

Early build 68 cars used the 67 louvers. This was built sept 67. I love this car even though I’m a 67 fanatic

Why does this 68 have the simple nose stripe and not stripe down side of car? Were early cars still using 67 stripe? Todd

That is correct

The “Hugger” stripe came out with the new 1968 colours released part way through the 68 model year.

Has a LOS cowl tag with a NOR VIN.

Here is what it says in ad.......

"10a los yy 730 - 1st week of oct 1967 an early #333 norwood vin with a los cowl tag i added a photo of the quarter panel stamp date very early special order body shipped from norwood to l.a."

He certainly has tried a new approach for selling a car with mixed assembly plant tags.

I understood that the small blocks got the finned SS hood louvers in 68 and the big blocks got the new designed louvers.

I thought '68 350 Camaros used finned '67 style louvers and 396s got the egg-crate louvers.

Small blocks got the egg crates after the new year

This car appears to have issues.

scuncio 01-05-2018 02:46 AM

WOW...blows my mind that this is a BUILT car!!

SuperNovaSS 01-05-2018 03:19 AM

That is really interesting if the 2 cars are one in the same. Maybe not a “built” car if it really is original paint. It could really be an RS/SS but it sounds like the engine and trans were gone 10 years ago and it has had a VIN swap which never has a good reason.

You can see where it was touched up around the back glass in the new photos plus the front clip having been redone. Still a swapped vin.

Wow, I didn’t see those pics earlier. I was trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but he obviously knows what is going on.

It's back on Craigslist for $29,500...

It's also back on Ebay for $34k. Too bad about the VIN issue...it would have been an awesome car.

Admittedly the pic below shows how rough the paint really is. You'd have to respray it for sure.
