PBT quality control inspection stampings on the firewall were done ONLY at the Norwood plant. They were either orange or green in color.

Thread i mentioned had Jerry M say he had no documented L.A. built cars witb stamps

PTB was not needed at LOS because the body side and the chassis side of the plant were already merged into the General Motors Assembly Division (GMAD) operating model meaning GMAD operated as one company.

At Norwood the assembly operating model still relied on separate GM divisions to assemble cars. At Norwood Fisher body and Chevrolet were locked in a subcontractor/prime contractor relationship.

At times the relationship between Fisher and Chevrolet was openly Hostile and crossing between the two sides by personnel from either side was a negotiated business agreement.

PTB Stamps were part of the Fisher Body audit process to combat claims of damage to the coach after receipt by the chassis side at Chevrolet.

Damage claims by Chevrolet were cost reimbursable through GM and hurt Fisher Body's Profit margins.

Remember a post by John Hinckley about crossing through to the Fisher side to try and sort out a quality or scheduling issue face-to-face; just about triggered going to DEFCON 1......

Stampings seem to be some type of ink as originals are always translucent looking and many restored NOR cars with heavy painted ptb stamps just do not look correct. I tried many types of products before coming up with one that gave the look and it was cheap. It's a hobby water based paint that is thin and purchased at Wallmart. Practice on a piece of sheetmetal to obtain the look your after as practice is beneficial. I found after applying the product (color) to the stamp to stamp it first on a piece of sheetmetal once and then apply to cowl so the stamping has that translucent look. That's why the practice pays off.
Here is the product used and color is pretty good compared to originals also.

Check out the PTB stamping on Ken Barnharts #16 ZL-1 Camaro if you ever get a chance.

I don't remember on which forum.
But it was an issue where a hole was being filled in by Fisher and his operator couldn't assemble. So he walked into Fisher, found the station. The guy was just wiping the excess off of his brush. How about any place but that hole - no problem. Then some manager saw him......

Chick,

What stamps or should I ask who's stamps did you use? Were the rubber letters trimmed and cleaned up prior to use or did you use them as they came with the paint product noted above?

Your stamps are some of the best I have seen and I was on the fence about even doing my firewall since so many look way over done or somewhat cartoonist if you know what I mean.

I use PERMANENT HEAVY BODY INDIA INK from the ART SUPPLY STORE with a STAMP PAD -
I found the GREEN as well as the ORANGE.

Included an original for comparison... PAINT never looked correct to me...
FWIW the silver car pictured was judged to have a survivor engine compartment.
