I checked the car and all wheels on the car AND the spare tire are the same
K1 3 9 Can anyone tell me why the spare tire would be a black rim and the ones on the car are red to match the car?

X66 714 11-14-2017 07:01 PM

A wheel was painted black from the factory when it was to be used with one of the full wheel covers. Color keyed with poverty caps...Joe

Joe .. The wheels on my car all seem to be original paint, the 4 on the car are red, the one in the trunk is black .... I would of thought they all would have been red ?

X66 714 11-14-2017 08:04 PM

They would've been. Unless you know the complete history or have a build sheet or window sticker it would be difficult to determine how things were then. I'm going through the same things with my 69 Camaro SS...Joe

Mr.Nickey Nova 11-14-2017 10:14 PM

I would leave them on if it were me... The dog dish gives it that sleeper look. If anything, keep them and change out when you get tired of the other set your switching with. Your spare should be body color... Garnet Red is a great color!! Let's see more pics of your Nova.

I would put them on the side and not sell them you will never find another dated set that nice.

I think they look great on that car. What are you going to replace them with?

MYSTERYCHEVELLE 11-15-2017 12:58 AM

Agree. Don't sell. Unless you are not able to pay the rent. Lol. Too hard to find

As was said. Spare will be color of car. Only black if the car came with full wheel covers. And no Sticker on spare tire either ;) see that a lot.

Keep EM

Totally agree...a matched set is very hard to find. Just swap out some other combinations if the spirit moves you, but keep the originals.

I am going to take the advise of many members here and put them in the corner of my garage as they are original to the car.
Thanks to everyone that wrote me wanting them.

X66 714 11-17-2017 01:29 PM

What wheels are you going to put on the car?

I had a heck of a time finding 5 of those wheels for my car. I wouldn't take anything off that car that's known to be correct & get rid of it. You'll kick yourself in the butt years from now....Joe

I am restoring a set of SS wheels for the car.
I actually ordered some new hoses for the car and just looked at the ones on the car and they are original GM including the smog hoses.

And am somewhat new to collecting Chevrolet I own some really nice Mopars for many years and saw this Nova for sale and thought Wow what a great looking car, So I bought it.

I had no idea that the "ugly" steel wheels were that hard to find !

WHEEL UPDATE .... I did take the spare tire out of the trunk today and found that someone painted the rim black over the original red paint.

I wish these two cars were nearer together, we could shoot some great video running them down some country highways.
