California Fires

Concerned about some of our friends out west. If any of you are close to the danger zones please check in when you can and let us know you're OK.

Charley Lillard 10-10-2017 12:28 AM

No fires near me but lots of smoke.

Charley Lillard 10-10-2017 12:29 AM

Santa Rosa is where the worst one is and I'm guessing alot of pot has gone up in smoke.

ORIGLS6 10-10-2017 12:31 AM

Glad to hear Charley. Hope the fires STAY away from you!

So is there a lot of traffic headed that way? Maybe a convoy of VW vans?

njsteve 10-10-2017 12:56 AM

I just heard that my elderly Aunt's house was destroyed but her daughter's (my cousin) house 40 yards away survived. Both of them evacuated just in time.

92646 10-10-2017 12:57 AM

They are having mandatory evacuations in parts of the city where I work. Mostly to the east of us but some of the employees had to leave.

Had 2 friends and their sons family have to get out today.Hoping for the best.Im in long beach and the soot from the fire is all over everything, going to be a huge mess if there is any dew tonight.Tom

My uncle is in Grass Valley, the fire at the fairgrounds was only a few hundred yards away. He did lose his garage with custom pickup and Studebaker but luckily the fire crews saved his house. Be safe everyone!

Astock 10-10-2017 02:54 AM

We had mandatory evac. Should have seen the fxcking maniacs driving thru the school zones when I picked up the kids today. Never seen so many self-important people. Everyone freaking out. My neighbor had three families from his church come over to help him water down his roof, ridicules.
I know a lot of firemen, and I put my faith in the best firefighters in the world.

Saw the smoke from my son's house, which is on the other side of the mountain from the fires. My daughter-in-law (and my son) work for Cox Communication and she had to use her clout with the Fire Authority, council people and anyone else she could contact to preserve a building that's a hub for emergency service numbers (911 and such) with 100 million dollars worth of equipment in it!! They actually did a helicopter "drop" on the building to prevent it from going up in flames. It was right on the other side of a toll road from the blaze!! Love her and what she does!! I've actually worked up in the area where a lot of homes were lost. :(

Prayers for all those affected by the fires, cannot imagine it. Sounds like there have been quite a few collector cars lost in the fires based on what I've read over the last few days. I guess people just don't have time or a place to get them moved out of danger. Terrible all around.

Xplantdad 10-12-2017 08:18 PM

I checked in with Mark Mitchell and Andrea...Last I heard , they were okay. Same with Bart.

having lived in the OC and taught at one of the schools affected in OC, this stinks. The only good thing was that when the fire started it was Columbus day and I don't think the kids were in school!

Everyone, please stay safe!!

These fires really SUCK -- things those people have worked for all their lives and it's gone in a second ... all we can do is prey for them ... Craig

Charley Lillard 10-12-2017 11:23 PM

Breezy now and supposed to have 30 mph winds this Sat with gusts to 40. Not good at all.

SuperNovaSS 10-13-2017 02:31 AM

Definitely not good. Smoke made it down to Santa Cruz yesterday which is over 100 miles south. Mother Nature can be a bitch sometimes.

My sister texted me to tell me that her sister and brother-in-law lost their home in Santa Rosa. So sad.........

MosportGreen66 10-13-2017 03:08 PM

I'm in Santa Cruz now with the family, Monterey early next week... we canceled our plans to be in wine country. We had been following the situation closely because of the vacation. I really feel for the people affected. We're seeing a good number of people in the hotel escaping the fires. Some lost everything, even pets, homes, cars, etc. Very sad. My best wishes for members in the area.

It looks as if they may have the orange county fire contained by this weekend. We are roughly 5 miles from it.

Hi Jason, thanks for the offer and I do appreciate it. As much as it pains me, this is a family trip and I've been asked to stick to the schedule planned. Hands are tied... no time for cars.

Someday soon...

Thanks,
Dan

SuperNovaSS 10-14-2017 07:42 PM

I completely understand. Have a great trip.

Jason

Watching the news it's hard to realize the scope of these fires.Over 5700 structures burnt down and sadly the lives lost.Fire crews from Canada and Australia are helping out.Hope things turn for the better.

Was calmer today but now I see smoke headed our way.

ORIGLS6 10-16-2017 04:37 AM

Hopefully it's just smoke and no fire. Breathe easy.

SS427 10-16-2017 06:45 PM

Dana Hurt-so far so good
Mark Mitchell-so far so good but getting closer. Just lost a fire fighter in Sonoma County due to a roll over
John Ginger-so far so good.

Yesterday, the side and whole back of the house had flames 10'-20' away. I look back at the inside of our house for the last time (surreal) holding my daughters hand and dog, without a firemen in sight, yet.
The studs show up looking like NFL players with fire suits on. Best firemen in the world. Saved my house and my neighbors houses.
