Is this the correct location for a 69 camaro 4 speed car oil gauge line I was told it should be under the speedo cable ?

Mr.Nickey Nova 09-23-2017 03:03 PM

That looks correct, right behind the distributor. That's where mine is located.

LOS or NOR built car?

Mr.Nickey Nova 09-24-2017 08:24 PM

Mine is a NOR car. The assembly manual shows it in the same place, page 416(U17)... Shouldn't matter if it's a LOS or NOR Camaro.

Oil line

For 1968, Norwood cars have the oil line to the left of the speedometer clip, LA cars have the oil line above the speedometer cable hole

ALLZS 09-24-2017 09:56 PM

its a june built nor car

NOR typically followed the AIM piercing location, LOS didn't.

The correct oil line hole for a Norwood car is the piercing dimple that is about 1 1/2 inches to right of the AIM piercing location.

Sometimes "IF" at ALL. My 12E 1968 Z has an OIL line that was jammed thru the Muncie Spedo grommet in the OH Sh!T fashion of a production line,,,,,,,,,,,NO GMAD punched Oil Hole at all for my gage equipped car..... seemed they leaned out and got her done 1 min faster Ha ha

Mine too is a June car!! You would think all plants followed the manual, that's what they were printed for?? Make sure you install a grommet and paint the line flat black, for the factory used black oil lines.

My Original OIL line is clear. (1968) [It WILL NOT be used. Must make a concession to safety over orig] I will be drilling a new hole & using a grommet- to restore to orig designed configuration as oppose to built conditions. In this case I have pictures of the as built but will choose to restore via normative practice, as in HOW it should be.

I think they switched to black in 1969.

I could be incorrect. Maybe I should explore the copper option to be safest?

The U17 oil hole is up and to the left slightly of the Muncie speedo cable hole. Here's a couple pics of original U17 oil line piercings. Unfortunately copper is not safest because of the vibrations between the body and motor. I was thinking about going that route and was talked out of it. Original style plastic line works well when installed correctly. Copper was only used on the big blocks to go from the filter location up to above the exhaust manifold. Plastic went from there to the console oil gauge. Small blocks went directly off the top of the block.
I have a bad connection right now, so Flickr isn't loading like it should. I have a few more pics if you want them that I can post later.

This is where the big block transitions from copper to plastic.

Last, but not least... Location #3.
