If anyone is interested SMS has REAL WOVEN COMFORTWEAVE in Black... it is about $600 for the material then you need to have the covers sewn, however it is the ONLY way to get the correct material.

Burd 12-24-2018 03:50 PM

SMS hooked me up on nOS Lombardy in Camel, great company to deal with.

ssl78 12-24-2018 05:26 PM

What do you mean real woven comfort weave the original was just a pressed pattern

No, real comfortweave is a true breathable weave. The aftermarket is a vinyl print.

It sure looks like my original is just a press print not really a weave

McCune 12-24-2018 10:53 PM

That's a weave, the print is not that convincing. You can actually see through real comfortweave when you hold it up to a light source and you cannot see through the simulated

McCune 12-24-2018 11:00 PM

Check out post 142 and you can see James has a great close up of real comfortweave.

ssl78 12-24-2018 11:02 PM

I do not believe that is 69 comfortweave

McCune 12-24-2018 11:20 PM

I've noticed a few threads being posted about reproduction versions of the 1969 Comfortweave and Houndstooth material being used in today's upholstery reproductions. The original Comfortweave we all know was just as it states in the name, woven. Unfortunately none of today's vinyl manufacturing companies are reproducing the Comfortweave as it was originally made by Chevy.

This was taken from another forum ^^

ssl78 12-25-2018 12:37 AM

That picture in post 142 was not vinyl look like some kind of thread. I do not think there is any way to weave vinyl

The pressed material does not feel or look anywhere close...
We are having SMS make covers for the 1973 RS LT Z28... light neutral comfortweave - $1300 for front and rear seat covers made from NOS comfortweave (received samples and have approved already) You have to send one complete front cover, and the upper and lower rear covers as patterns.

McCune 12-31-2018 04:22 AM

SMS ,told me they would not make my covers. I am happy they are willing to do yours.

So what is the process for ordering the comfortweave vinyl? I see what I think is black comfrotweave: "1969 Chevrolet Vinyl 69-9016", but that is just a sample. Once you are ready to order, I assume you need to call them, right? Since Comfortweave is a directional product, how is the correct yardage and direction ordered? Just looking for tips from those who ordered from SMS. thanks

That's an impressive material. Chevy must have charged a premium for that option.
Just curious how long SMS quoted you on the turnaround.
They've been known to take as much as 2 years to finish an order.

This is NOS material and SMS recently bought out and integrated a couple of other vendors material inventories so I have no idea what colors they have or what quantities they have however I am picking up a few different colors for complete cars while it is available. Bright blue (I want to do a 69 or 70 vette with Bright Blue comfortweave and Red Comfortweave for a Camaro along with black for a Camaro & my vette.)

I got samples of the comfortweave to approve first, (real and woven) now they are sending samples of the vinyl and the beading/welting for approval before I agree to let them do the seats.

That's a good question as I am not waiting 2 years...
I have someone who can sew covers VERY WELL so I can get it done.

The actual fabric is 54" wide and is $170 per running yard. SMS says 3 yards. We are buying an additional 3 yards to keep with the car in-case something happens.

cheveslakr 12-31-2018 09:58 PM

SMS is known for the largest inventory in the world. I know they bought a very large lot recently and many just gasped, because now they have the monopoly and the customer has no recourse. I've visited their warehouse, it's friggin HUGE and they're certainly for real. It's a great thing that they're doing, just wish they had better customer relations.

Yep, last year (June 2021) I ordered covers for the GTO and they showed up January this year. So they've been behind for quite a while.

It's pretty much like that with everything it seems.
