Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Hey guys,
Have to ask...640+ folks have viewed my post. I would like your honest opinion about my car. Is there something specific that could hold the car back from being sold? Color, Price, auto vs. 4 speed, time of year, car's location, all? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks...Mike |
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
I looked at it and think it's a nice car and priced fairly. If I wasn't trying to not buy stuff I would be all over it.
|
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Thanks for the feedback.
|
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Automatic holds it back and if it was RALLY SPORT it would help
|
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Mike, it's a really nice car. Do you you have any of the original paperwork for it? Bill of sale, POP, etc. That goes a long way in making a sale.
|
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Green and automatic hurts in my opinion. Real nicely done car though.
|
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
I appreciate the feedback. No original paper work. I understand it's a color some folks don't like along with the auto. I do feel the price reflects these things...am I right?

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Mike Steitz (www.nastyz28) Camaro Nationals 2nd Gen Judge and 70' Camaro EXPERT has a Gorgeous Restored
70 Forest Green L-78 with Bow Tie Baby Moons (no longer call "Dog Dish"). I dont have hosted pics to put up here, but do have them to email or probably still at NastyZ28 if you could find them. I personally dont care for the Baby Moons on the 14x7" wheels, but understand that customers didnt want to pay for any RPO as they were going to add Day2 wheels...........ala CRAGAR etc etc I have examples of every 1970 Camaro wheel cover option |
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
I believed you are priced correctly. It is just a matter of finding the right person for the car. I do not see anything negative on the car. As we get older, with bad knees the automatic starts to look good.
It is a very nice car, I love the green. It seems that the $25,000 to $50,000 car are the hard sell. Under $25,000 people can afford, the over $50,000 are usually higher end collector cars. Just my two cents. I like you cars and think it is priced fairly. |
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
CamarosRus...I have talked to Mike prior to posting the car here...nice guy. Thanks for telling me the proper term for the dog dish...I will use that going forward.

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Nice car.
I'd actually pay more for an Auto Trans. today. |

Looks like a neat car...2nd gen BB Camaro with original driveline is cool. I don't think the Forest Green and the TH400 are a downside...there were a lot of Forest Green cars sold that year. I would recommend hitting a few of the other known sites like; Team Camaro, Cars on Line and maybe an online ad in Hemmings...I'm not a fan of Ebay or Craigslist...I'll leave that up to you. Good luck..wilma |
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Thanks for the advice Wilma.

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
I thinks it is a very nice and rare car. I also think that the first gens appeal to a broader audience but given time, I believe the 2nd gens will come around. This same car in a first gen would probably be in the $40K to $50K range, which do not ride and handle near as well as your car.
Stay patient, it will pay off. Paul |
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Wilma is correct. (believe it or not??) Try other venues also. Maybe an optional set of tires and wheels?

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Be patient Mike.Sold my '70 L78 Nova here.Thought it wasn't going to sell and out of the blue a dealer from Kansas contacted me and away she went!

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Always loved big-block 2nd Gens. Rare, especially in great condition.

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Maybe consider a MidWest auction (given your location) as well. Great place to sell if you can stomach the transportation expense to make it happen.
|
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
Nice looking SS..........I think you'll have to be patient for a number of reasons but the time of the year right now might be your biggest culprit. As I'm sure you know your biggest competition is likely going to be from the Z-28 market for those considering Second Gens. I think you would be doing well if you get your current asking price.
If you still have it next year I would get it out to a few car events in the Des Moines area if you haven't already........good luck! |

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
my opinion ... and we all know what opinions are worth ... :-)
auto and interior color that said, my car WAS Forest green but with the tan interior. I remember telling myself when i bought it in 1977, " I can paint it any color, as it has tan guts" I looked at MANY cars before buying this one and I ignored all: A. with a slushbox, B. without power steering, C. that had rust, D. that had non original engine parts (yes, even headers), E. were gold or slime (citrus) green (sorry, wasn't in my window of tolerance), and finally F. had a green interior I lucked out finding my car, it was all I wanted and MORE: M-22, EXCEPT it was FG. The originality of the drivetrain (still had smog hooked up and all 4 original spiral shocks) convinced me it was a good car I always wanted a black one so I had it painted in the very early 80's That all said, I have more tolerance for all the external colors today but still have an issue with green interiors on f bodies |
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
I would put different wheels on it.. maybe 70 Z style wheels. Those later camaro wheels do not do the car justice !! GLWTS !!

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
14"Rally Wheels on this Forest Green SS are correct and original RPO option.
You see very few original SS 2nd Gen Camaros and even fewer with stock Rallys. |

Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
I find the Z28's are much more in demand than the big block 2nd Gens. I also think the price is good, maybe let someone beat you down to 35k, but I would not go any lower.
I would not use any professional auctions on this car. My experience (again mine) is that second gen Camaros don't do well at auction. You can do ok on ebay with a car like yours that presents well. Get some professional pics taken, and write a good ad (maybe post here for tips on a good ad). Pics of the block stampings would go a long way. I think (like others have said, opinion) the fact that your car has the original engine is much more of a plus than the negatives of color (I like the forest green) and automatic. Just my .02, Oh, and I agree on time of year. Income tax return time is much easier to sell a car. Make sure if you do an ebay ad, that the auction does not end on a holiday, Fri or Sat night, or middle of the day. I found that Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings around 8pm central time were prime selling times (east and west coast can bid). GLWS! Rich |
Re: 1970 SS396 Camaro For Sale
69LM1(Rich),
Very sound advice. I do have photos of all stamps/partial VIN's for the serious buyer. Thank you. |
